Boat is a 2001 260DA, engine alarm was working normally, 2 quick beeps when turning the key on. Now in the past couple weeks it has seem to stop working.

I’ve spent over an hour down in the engine well looking for the dam alarm/horn, can’t find it. Am I looking in the wrong spot? Is it up behind the dash somewhere? I called Mercruiser, they really weren’t any help, gave me the part number so I could look up what it looked like, but can’t find any engine diagram that points out it’s location.

Motor is the 7.4 MPI

Thanks
Joe

Behind the dash. Wouldn't hear it if it was in the bilge. Usually zip tied to the steering rack.

Go figure .

Mercruiser was like, “oh it’s usually dangling off the engine close to where the ECM is mounted”

I’ll have to get up in the dash and take a look for it.

thanks for your quick help

Here is a picture under the dah of our old 280. It’s the little black thing secured with the wire tie.

It probably is... when they ship the engine out from their factory! :)

I can only seem to find one alarm in the dash but it appears to be hooked into the factory depth finder. I’ve never used the shallow water alarm alert, but is it possible the engine and this shallow water alert use the same horn?

Turn the key on while you have you head under there to listen/find the piezo alarm. If need be, short the two drive lube reservoir leads together (I think this will produce an alarm without the engine running - but not positive).

Awesome, thanks for the tip, that is easy enough to get to, right on top of the block!
