Merc tech told me today that the only part of the fuel module that had issues with paint coming off was the cover on the pump side and the new cover solved that problem.

I’ve seen pics of modules that looks like paint coming off on the filter side. Anyone have first hand experience? I hate to spend $200 on a cover if that doesn’t solve the problem. Also there are some that say you can strip the paint off the old cover, anyone done that?

I caught mine in time. Blasted the cover, made some mods to the module, worked great when sold 3 years later.

Mine definitely had paint inside the main housing. I did not have issues with it flaking, but the paint robot sprayed right in it.

Did you strip the paint off the housing, or leave it? I'm not clear where the paint usually flakes from.

Did your tech already remove the top cover? Apparently the top covers do not always come off without breaking/stripping screws.

I was speaking about modules in general, not mine. Gonna look at mine this weekend

If the cover doesn’t show any signs of paint coming off, would you still replace it or leave it and just not use gas with ethanol?

took my cover off and had it blasted. I purchased a filter housing due to the leaky corroded connections and it appeared to be painted or coated with something.
