Ours stopped working vintage 1989 I think. Comes on and hums for few seconds then click sound and off. Assume frozen compressor. Going to replace it. Has anyone ever got a Marine Ice Maker from Home Depot. Dimensions same as one in boat now. Price is half of what I have seen of the model presently in boat.

Whynter

14 in. 23 lb. Output Built-In Marine Stainless Steel Automatic Ice Maker in Stainless Steel

$ 698 52

No one shops at Home Depot? I got my boat PEX pipe and fittings there to fix leaks in the grey PEX pipe.

I actually just ordered the same unit on Amazon. It was the same price as Home Depot. Just figured it’s easier to have it shipped than to go thru the hassle of a special order with HD.
Scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

It is supposedly for marine/RV and considering it is half price, I went for it. I can’t justify $1,200 for replacing the U-line unit that has basically rusted away.....

As a side note, I’m thinking of adding a “T” right before the ice maker inlet and run a line into the bilge so I can purge the water supply line. Ice maker doesn’t get used on a regular basis and I find the water can get stale. Rather than making ice to cycle water, thought it be much easier to turn on a valve and just purge the water for a few minutes.....

Thanks for responding. When you get it installed please comment on what you think of it.

Just finished the install. It’s a really nice unit and frankly I think it’s better quality than the U-Line I just removed. All stainless steel enclosure. The water inlet is a 1/4” typical threaded ice maker connection. I added a separate water filter and separate purge line so I can purge the water before making ice if it hasn’t been used in a while. Easy enough to do and a nice upgrade. Can’t speak of performance just yet but it is rated similar to the other units as far as ice output....
I also purchased the trim kit.

How does the purge work? Where is it dumping?
Help my ignorance ;)

Thanks for posting. I see door inside looks like plastic. Is the inside also plastic

It seems to be the same material which appears to be plastic.

In response to the purge question, The purge is just a separate water line where I added a T fitting right before the ice maker inlet. I ran the hose into the bilge and installed the valve that is in the picture. I then have a 5’ hose that I put in a 5 gallon bucket. I purged about 15 gallons before I started making ice with the new unit.

Here you go Carter. I hope you’re staying safe and healthy during these crazy times we are living in.....
Cheers

Nice install. One quick question just for my own curiosity--you ran your purge line to a 5-gal bucket. Why not just empty it directly to the bilge and clean that area a bit?

Easy enough to do and certainly an option if one wanted to do that. It is basically a hose line. I try and keep the bilge clean (and dry.. which is not easy to do on this boat) so no need for me. So I just prefer to discharge it into a bucket and then dump it.....

Steve can you post a model #?

Thanks Steve,

We are missing you all at Tarpon Point and we are very jealous of your planned trip. Wish Reward was along...

It looks great! Did you have to modify the opening from the size of the Uline?
