Stranger danger.... some marinas around us have sent the employees home... we are still in winter storage mode but anyone needing work from the mechanics is out of luck for a while

Our marina here in Fla closed the gym, and all classes. it’s just a matter of time before the restaurants close.

I was up at my boat today and they had a full crew, working on people's spring work lists. I just hope it continues and they start launching them in a few weeks...

Yesterday, I got an e-mail stating that they are limiting the storage yard access to employees only. Today, they had to send a follow up e-mail. I can only imagine the questions and fussing they got from other owners over this. I thought this follow up e-mail was pretty well written:

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Yesterday I sent out an announcement about our ongoing COVID-19 response and accompanying restrictions. It appears, based on some responses I received, that this came as a shock. Regrettably, it is a real pandemic with real loss of life and real consequences for those that refuse to follow the governments recommended restrictions.

Please understand that we are following all CDC guidelines (the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention not Chicago Dock & Canal) and it is our top priority to help this global pandemic go away as quickly as possible – not be part of the problem.

We are restricting access to our facility (Yard & Office) to essential employees only until further notice as we continue to monitor the situation and all government recommendations to stem the spread of COVID-19. This includes weekends.

We are in the business of supporting and serving boaters in the Chicago Area. Not only our motto but our team’s mission is to Make Boating Better. We are undertaking these unfortunate steps now as a means to ensure that you can go boating when the time comes. We are fortunate that no one on our team has been stricken with the virus and we are taking every step possible to maintain the health of our team members.

We hope this will not last long and we will continue to keep you posted with any further developments.

Pretty much everything is closed here in NY. My boat goes in the water in 4 weeks. I'm going to self quarantine on it and make sure it's full of toilet paper and beer.o_O Ride out to the middle of the long Island sound and wait for this to end. Crazy!

Kind of a mixed breed here is Southern Western Shore Maryland. Spoke to one marina owner at hardware store Sunday and he said they were wide open getting boats ready and in the water. Where as spoke to the service manager of a different marina 30 minutes away he stated they have received requests from about 1/3 of there customers not to prep their boats as they are unsure if they will be able partake in boating this season due to financial and travel restrictions. Guess just depends on the clients that they serve and support. The later marina serves mostly larger boats - 28 ft to 70 ft + and are 95% pleasure, a lot of out of town owners. The first marina serves smaller boats - 16 to 28 but also some 28+, and are a mix of pleasure and work vessels. Mostly local customers.

Our marina is still planning to open on schedule. The yard where we store is working. I haven’t heard from either of any limitations, but then our season doesn’t start until late May.

I don’t know how many of my neighbors will show up though. The couple we share the finger dock with are doctors, the guy on the other side drives planes for United and we have three contractors and a restaurant owner on the dock. As for us we’re retired and although the value of our holdings has suffered, our income hasn’t. So as long as there are places to go, we’ll be boating. Actually if it weren’t for the dog we’d probably pack up and go find a nice place anchor for the summer.

What facility. I’m up in Winthrop harbor and there’s been nothing yet.

Our marina here in CT is still operating but i expect that will change in the next week as they implement more aggressive restrictions. Kind of a bummer for us as we can't launch until they install our new hydraulic platform, which is on a truck in route to the marina. I'm hoping they can get it installed next week before its too late. If they don't i suspect they'll be closed for some time and once reopened it will simply be a mad rush to get boats in the water. We were planning on an early April launch but i bet that is delayed quite a bit. Oh well. We are in a pandemic so i shouldn't be griping about not being able to get on my boat.
I am far from retirement, I envy the day, but I do run a healthcare technology sales org, which is obviously in HIGH demand right now. So i won't complain just yet about not having money to go boating. 3-6-9 months from now that may be a different story....

I am at Ft Pierce City Marina until the end of the month. They announced yesterday they aren't taking any new reservations.

Golfman25 - I just put my launch on hold - SB's was perfectly fine with the hold. I do have to have some work done but held off on that also - just not going to spend the cash until I see where this all falls out and the work is not critical. At the worst I will launch and simply leave the boat in the slip since it is paid for... no need to pay for "summer storage" at SB's if the summer goes south with the virus...

I own Regatta Point Yachting Center in VA, and we are completely open as of now, taking reservations etc. Our team has been hard at work to get ready for the upcoming season. We have had several people already getting into the water for the season... Our RO water is already on for the docks...

Not seeing the point of getting our boat out of storage right now. It is paid until june1. Army Corp of Engineers has all the lakes around here shut down. No place to boat.

Good plan Stee! I just called Grand Isle. They said business as usual. No restrictions as yet. I plan to splash April 15th. When are you going in?

Hoping for mid-April as well. I wouldn't mind getting in a bit earlier. I'd hate to get stranded inside a warm building due to lack of a properly trained travelift driver...or a ban on said driver reporting to work :)

We received an email from our Dockmaster yesterday that the facilities will be closed indefinitely including fuel and pump out. He along with the owners are elderly so I can understand the decision due to their higher risk level.
