Can you remove a 7.4 L by separating it from the Hurth v-drive.?

7.4 L Mercruiser w/v-drive
I’ve pulled one engine and Hurth transmission in one piece, but had to cut the prop shaft hub off to free the engine.
I’d like to separate the engine from the Hurth transmission and slide the motor forward to remove it. Has anyone done this and is it easier than cutting off the hub?
I’m working on a Sundance’s 330 so the engine bilge has room to work.

I pulled both of my 7.4 MIE Horizons by separating at the bell housing. Didn't even have to realign when I put the replacement motors in.

Thanks! I wish I had asked this before having to cut the prop shaft hub! What a challenge!!
This will save me a lot of effort and time!

Most just unbolt the coupler from the trans side
Sounds easier than done! Very little room to work. The hub is pressed on the prop shaft and even using a puller it wouldn’t budge. Heat, tapping, adding puller all failed to loosen it. A thread by others here said use a 5” cutting wheel and split the hub. That’s what to took to get it off.
Once I pulled the complete engine/trans to replace trans seals, I saw how easy the trans separated from the engine. Thought that might be a LOT easier!

There is no "easybutton" like the tv commericals inboard hubs are not pressed on to the shafting . They are a slight press fit by hand,a keyway and then the 2 grub bolts or allens are tightened and safety wired

That might be correct for split hubs, which I bought to replace mine. But this hub had NO grub bolts or Allen bolts. Key way and press fit.
