My QSM11 engines are being tore down for the scheduled cooler maintenance. While the turbochargers are off, the hot side of the exhaust are going out to have the hardcoat insulation replaced and also the aluminum heat shielding over the turbine section of the turbocharger replaced (see first photo). The aluminum insulation is not in bad shape but the fabric part of it needs to be replaced.
But, rather than replacing the aluminum insulation has anyone used the Seaboard Marine blanket style insulation (second photo)? It's less than half the cost of the aluminum.
