2001 amberjack 290 specifically generator fuel solenoid. Is it normally closed and then opens with power or normally open and closes if an issue? I ran genny yesterday and it ran few min then died, i didnt have the control pnel set to heneratir cause its not hooked to it but does setting tha switch from shore power to generator open that solenoid?

The solenoid is spring loaded and in the closed position when the the generator is not running therefore no fuel flow to the carb. When the generator start switch is activated a electro magnet opens the solenoid allowing fuel to flow to the carb. The solenoid then remains open until the generator dies or is shutdown.

Fuel injectors are similar to a point.

But I don’t think the solenoid is your problem. Probably an overheat condition on either coolant side or exhaust side. the pcb control board or the voltage regulator can also cause a shutdown.
Note of caution, do not start or shutdown the generator with a load on it because the voltage regulator will fry.

Well generator is basically just in there hooked up to battery its not hooked up to the control panel so generator isnt giving any power to boat yet. And i had the switch on shorepower so thats probably why the solenoid stayed closed and ran out of fuel

Actually, as soon as the generator start switch is activated and while it is running the generator supplies the power to the solenoid which keeps it open. So more than likely another fault is causing the shutdown.
