So I purchased a new to me 07 52 Sedan Bridge late this summer and it’s been quite the learning experience with diesels.

So I was told the air filters needed to be replaced on our QSM11’s by the survey mechanic. Attached, they look fine to me from the outside. I have read on Seaboard Marine that the stock air filters tend to rust and degrade internally causing internal issues to the engine/turbo’s.

All said I wanted to removed the filters myself and take a look inside one to get a better idea. Should be easy... I thought since I am pretty hands-on when it comes to general maintenance.

Anyway, I didn’t get very far since the filter seems to be sealed/stuck to the flange.

I didn’t work to hard on it but thought you guys may have run across this issue already.

any ideas or tips?

That filter needs to be replaced for sure. It is caving in from the suction of the engine intake. I went with the Seaboard marine filters. They are expensive but a good fit and are serviceable so you can clean and re-oil them.
Yours look like they have been on there for a while so get the clamps loose and then get a hook or something similar between the rubber and turbo housing and break the seal around the air filter.

what about the filter in this picture. I think it is the blow by filter. I pulled mine out of the canister and it wasn’t too dirty but the bottom of it was pretty black or dirty.

do you replace these on regular intervals?

Yes...The PART # is CCV55274-08 and is mfg. by Parker/Racor. You can order them from Amazon.

In regards to the air filter, Walker Airsep also makes a replacement Air filter for the QSM11 (P/N 90-1302) shown in the pic below.
The filter can be removed from the housing for periodic cleaning and oiling. Walker Airsep makes a cleaning/oil kit. The kit for this filter is the one with the blue oil.

Thank you... these QSM’s take some pricey air filters...

Yes they are expensive but if you clean them once a season and re-oil them then you will not need to replace them for many years.

When you guys replaced your filters di yours look like mine? Sort of Caved in... Did the old one show any rust or degradation on the inside of the filter?

Mine was caved in as well. Not as dirty/dark as yours but would have needed to be cleaned. Ultimately needed to be replaced because it was caved in.

Here is what mine looked like.

Thanks. Lots of cleaning and touch up paint when I bought it.

Hi. Do you simply snap/pop the filter element into the black housing or do you purchase the filter as an assembly? By assembly, I mean the black plastic housing and filter element which then clamps to the turbo.

If it’s the original Cummins filter, I believe it one piece. If your thinking of buying new ones, I suggest getting them from Sbar Marine or Walker Airsep.

I purchased and installed the SBMAR.com air filters below. Not cheap (less than OEM) and SBMAR does run a sale on most of their parts in March each year...

I also got the Sbmar filters and they are one piece with the rubber boot going to the turbo.
