Nice try, Todd! (~; But "go, go,go" doesn't equate to magic for me.

I understand. I know one spot a day or in some cases two days is hurrying, but it's really only a couple hours a day cruising and the rest is R&R. Either way you're going to have a blast.

We are all going to have a blast! Some of us will just "blow" our fuel budget simply getting to the launch site. )~; Oh well.

Yeah I have been thinking about that.
It's just you and Jeremy coming up from there right, or am I forgetting someone?

Luckily fuel in Canada's cheap....it's only $1.50/litre

Fuel budget? I think I blew through that when we upgraded to a larger boat. I'm thinking Sea Tow might be a good option to get from point to point. I'll just use enough gas to get halfway to the next port and then stop and give them a call. That or I need to figure out how to harness an Orca going my direction.

$1.50 a liter? That sounds REAL good... :smt101 :smt021

They are projecting that we'll get to $5.00/gallon by July 4th. Is there any way to rig a sale to our boats? I hear that there are places in the islands with strong currents - might have to use those in our favor and drift along for a while, where possible. LOL!!!

As to our California group, there will be Jeremy, Mike, and I - three boats total. Jeremy said that he'll be joining the northern group. Mike and I will definitely stay south. Not sure where Jeremy plans on launching. The last time we talked he said he was going to drive up there separately from Mike and I. I think he's planning on taking his time on the way up there. I don't know. The way the fuel prices are going, it might be worth while limiting our highway speed to 60 mph. But then again, what's that extra 1 mpg really do for our vacation budget?

That's Right Mike. I knew I was forgetting someone. On the e-mail I haven't correlated where all are from.

Also 1.50/litre is $5.68 gallon:smt021

I haven't heard where Jeremy was planning on launching either, but as the days get closer I'm sure everyone plans will come together and details will be shared

Todd,

I am German - born and raised. I "get" the metric system. (~; I was simply trying to point out that the cost of gas State-side is getting out of control as well - though not as bad as Canada yet. But at these prices, "bad" is relative. I wonder, if these boats run on beer? The cost is almost on par! )~;

Beer. Oh that's going to be good too. Since this boat is new to us, and we won't have the Island as home base (more than likely an overnight or two) up there, it will be fun packing everything aboard. Luckily there are lots of places for replenishing beer and ice. Like you said it's all relative.

Other than that I'll be in shorts.......

One pair of shorts and that's all I need. The shorts, and a beer and thats all I need. The shorts, a beer and a shirt and that's all I need. The shorts, a beer, a shirt and a boat and that's all I need. The shorts, a beer, a shirt, a boat and a credit card and that's all I need. I don't need anything else.

Is it time to go yet? 5 weeks and counting!

Arghhhhhhhh! How to get everything done in this short time frame???? I still have to get my truck smoged - hopefully this week, mount my new bbq pedestal base and then figure out how to mount the round kettle bbq to it, mount a fourth battery tray for the dinghy's battery in the engine bay, figure out, where to store 2 crab pots, figure out, how to convince the admiral that she doesn't need as many changes of clothes and pairs of shoes as she thinks she does, etc., etc...... Oh well, I guess come the morning of 7/16 we'll just hitch up the boat and go. No turning back then!

Oh yeah, and then there is the long weekend of July 4th we'll be spending on the lake. No shortage of fun!

Mo and I were thinking of picking up one of these Flex Fold traps
They're kind of spendy, but I sure like the way they stow.

I looked at those and almost bought them.... until I saw the price. )~; I ended up getting the "std." fold-up box type. They work quite well, once modified a bit by adding a little extra wheight to the flap gates to keep them from constantly swinging open in surge or current (got limits last Falll). I am thinking of storring them folded up in the engine bay. I think they'll fit upright strapped against the holding tank. I'll find out this weekend. But then there's still a bunch of other "stuff" to deal with, like floats, 100' of line for each trap, bait cages, wheights,.... Champagne Lady previously told me that they just left the traps assembled and tied down on the deck. I Might consider just bungeeing them down on the extended swimstep. That way, it also keeps the invariable gunk out of the cockpit and off the deck.

I still need to check with the rest of the southern group as to who will bring a pot and burner to boil the crab in. No sense in everyone bringing these items. Unfortunately, the burner I have and typically use is one of those large deep-fry turkey burners. It's heavy and takes up way too much room. Hopefully, someone else will step up?!?!

I have one as well, but not sure I want to pack that thing around + the tank.

OK, I'll admit it. I've never gone crab hunting. Do I need my camouflage gear and what size shells should I bring? 2 3/4 inch and what size shot works best? I could bring a .45 caliber if that works better? Is there a special permit I need or does the standard fishing license work? I should get my WA fishing license purchased!

We might have some room in our boat to store some stuff, but I haven't talked to the admiral yet. I've been preaching 4 - 5 days worth of clothes with a laundry stop or two along the way. That could still mean 15 changes of clothes for my daughter. My son and I could probably make the whole trip in one set of shorts and a couple of t-shirts!

I knocked out a bunch of prep items last weekend. I cut carpet, stapled down some upholstery, varnished and replaced some trim pieces, tightened up the bolts holding the swim platform on, polished, waxed, washed (I think it was in that order?), replaced all the valves in the faucets, stuck the vinyl name on, tightened all of the piano hinges on the doors and aft seats, and monkeyed with lights, batteries and the fuel sender. Gave up on the fuel sender and have a REAL mechanic coming to take a look. The list is shrinking, but I still have a lot to do.

Hey Mark,
See if Doug posted the # he called earlier in this massive thread?

Ok, Well I have Made our Reservations at Roche but wasted to volley out what I think is a cleaned up Itinerary.

All going north please take a look and verify. I haven't made Reservations anywhere else yet. I wanted to make sure this looks good and then make them at Maple Bay, Nanaimo and Bedwell(Poet's Cove) and Silva if necessary.

Please review carefully as I bumped the ending as we discussed but wasn't written down
Also I added Caldwell Is. in place of Pender since it's just 25 minutes north of there.

If you didn't get it in Nanaimo, then you can get it in Pender.

Todd, since we wil be in Victoria, I emailed the company and bcc's you about getting them when we are there. Asked for a group discount and if they could deliver to the docks if they are not w/i walking distance...

BTW, if we can collect everyone's info (cell # and names), I'll put together a 3x5 card with the cruise on the back and the names on the front so we can have them at gatherings and know everyone...
