Redoing a Westerbeke generator (7.6 BTD). Old coolant overflow line was mashed onto the barbs and is stiff, brittle and discolored. Parts manual does not list the material or diameter.

It looks like 1/4" ID. Can I use clear PVC? Rubber? What is the correct size and material for coolant over flow lines?

I'd say yes, Nothing special about the overflow line. I'd use Tygon hose as it is pretty resistant to chemicals.

I use clear hose on all my overflows. Boat, truck, equipment, etc. The overflow hose is typically only in use when the system needs to relieve some pressure. My theory is that with the clear hose at least some droplets of coolant will remain in the hose and be visible for inspection after shutdown. Just a quick glance at a clear hose may indicate a growing problem. Just my 2 cents.

I’ve always just used a piece of fuel line when I had to replace one.

Totally agree with all above. Nothing special about the overflow hose.
