I may have screwed up - Listing to starboard

I certainly will right after I get the old girl winterized just plugged in a 100 w lighting the bilge to keep it above 0
Before drilling holes, you may want to find some flush mounting expanding rubber plugs that can be used to fill them. Auto stores have them for frost plugs in standard sizes that can be drilled with a hole saw.

Ouch, nothing sticking down here in Niagara yet.
I’ll pm you the guys email address who helped me
Got ahold of SR in Knoxville (aka Brunswick Boat Group) and they told me that they are no longer willing to share that type of information publically due to copyright and IP protection. I really don't see that value in protecting 30-year-old IP but they stonewalled me nonetheless. Unfortunate and I will now have to carefully work my way around with a multitool. Thanks for the advice though, it was appreciated in spite of the result.

That doesn't sound right, your asking about the construction of a boat you own and need to make repairs to. Do you know what plant built your boat? Not sure if they used the same HID scheme in 94, but on my 99, the HID begins with SERV - the V indicates it was built in the Vonore TN plant. It's been a few years, but I called that plant directly to find out the gelcoat color that was used - they were very forthcoming with all kinds of information about my boat. Can't imagine what intellectual property there is to protect on a 25yr old boat - they weren't using any revolutionary construction techniques or materials back then. Your not asking for the secret sauce recipe, you just want to know where the hidden compartments are so you cut them open clean the wet muck out of them without destroying your boat. I think I would give SeaRay - maybe find the plant that built the boat - another call.

I will have to take a look. I had called the Greenville plant and got a really nice receptionist that sounded like she really wanted to help. She gave me a number for someone in Knoxville in warranty but I have not been able to get ahold of them yet. This was through the customer support line. When I went through the customer support form on the website someone from pride marine group responded and was no help. Said I would need to contact searay directly for that type on information. I thought I was lol.

A few years ago I did some digging and found this Code-plant list. The digit will be the fourth one of the HIN. The first three are the Manufacture Identification Code (MIC is SER for Sea Ray). My 1989 was built in Arizona.

No warranties expressed or implied!

A Phoenix, AZ
N Oxford, MI
F Merritt Island, FL
T Knoxville, TN
V Telico in Vonore, TN
P Palm Coast, FL
C Cherokee Cove, TN
E Corke, Ireland
S Ft. Mills, S.C.
R River View plant in Knoxville, TN
Y Sykes Creek in Merritt Is, FL

According to this chart, the vessel was manufactured in Phoenix. I did some digging and it doesn't look like that plant exists anymore.

Justin,
That is a great boat with a great drive package. I have an ‘89 220 with the same engine and drive. Try to fix it - you won’t find a better handling boat and more solid engine.
When I rebuilt my transom and engine box, the water entered via the screw holes in the transom from the dealer installed speedometer tube. The starboard side of my transom and engine compartment were rotted.
I pulled the engine and a couple of weeks later, I now have a bulletproof transom, rock solid motor mounts, and made some design improvements where the stringers tie into the transom.
I just spent two days running the boat in coastal Destin bouncing over moderate November chop without a creak. I am very happy I decided to fix and keep rather than roll the dice again. If you like the boat, if it fits your needs, I would try to fix it because then you know what you have.
I have dual batteries but they are port and starboard. For such a light boat, it seems two batteries one one side will always be a problem unless the potable water tank was intended by design to balance. Is the weight of a full tank about the same as two batteries?
Hey DWA, sidebar conversation. Any recommendations for a prop? Since you have the same power/drive

Justin,

This is the prop I have on mine. I did not select it. It was on the boat when I got it 12 years ago. I can do close to 40 mph or pull two skiers at once with it. Good general duty prop. I have no issues with it. A true prop expert may give an opinion.

Propellar: Stilletto 3-blade stainless steel, 10317 M1417

I am currently living the similar situation ,
30 foot 2004 Regal Commodore ,
Forgive me Sea Ray owners ,
Also own a Sea Ray owner. (22 years)
Fisherman
1984
21 ft walk around , small cuddy cabin , I.O
Fisherman name changed too Laguna
Same hull Laguna name badge power I.O
Years later same boat , power O.B
Eventually Lagunas went center consoles, O.B's
On my boat ,transom shot, foam wet ,stringers buried under deck
Pandora's box of no return. Stripped engine room , Started too tear down transom . Lot of work ,
Stopped - trying too sell with VG trailer no luck -Purchased almost new 3.7 Mercruiser with 19 hours for this project but wrestle with the work ahead of me .

BACK TOO REGAL
marina kept in/out
When boat was splashed leaned slightly too starboard , Not noticeable too the average person but I noticed.
I am now in a wet slip
No water intrusion
Boat was MFG 2004 -
Regal offers Tech support with serial number
Actual person that has been there 30 years .
Overall helpful, but no help over phone without viewing Re : leaning issue other then the basic things too check for . On the Regal I am able too remove galley cabinets viewing down center structure. NO WATER
LAY OUT OF REGAL
TWIN 6 cylinder engines ,
PORT SIDE -generator / AC / deck refrigerator, seating
Down center-105 gallons fuel / 20 gallons fresh under

Starboard SIDE - 2 batteries / 6 gallons hot water tank 20 gallons of waste holding tank
WHY is the heavy equipment mounted on port side
But leaning too starboard ?
No way of knowing if starboard engine is off or maybe
the fuel tank is not exactly centered , ?
Going on Regal Forum a fellow owner with same model
same lay out indicated he too had the leaning issue
He indicated the galley , wood cabinets, bathroom is
also on the starboard side and that is quite heavy .
Never considered cabinets, first thought was
heavy equipment or water ?? So I feel better ,
Generator stopped working last year , ( never used)
I had the port engine out and had access too work on generator , Had too pull it out for rebuild .
Time consuming , costly , never used
Was hoping too eliminate that 300 lbs , possibly
improving fuel burn ??? HAHAH
NOW boat is leaning so bad too starboard marina calling ?? Check your boat , taking on water ??
Cant move any real weight from starboard 2 port
Hot water tank , batteries , maybe 100 lbs
Not running boat that way ,
What can I put into the area were gen set was ??
Concrete bags, sand bags , Lead , lithium battery's
Had a lot of 15/15 flat patio blocks, each one weighted 33 lbs ,
13 blocks , 429 lbs , BOAT IS LEVEL .
Might be forced too get generator rebuilt , move batteries should be ok
HAVE U HUGGED YUR BOAT TODAY ????

Hi all, i just bought my first boat. I have been around boats most of my life and have many FWB so I am not a complete newb. I recently purchased a 94' searay ov 220. Everything checked out, it looked clean, dry, and the engine was super clean and ran well. Seemingly no red flags from the vessel or it's previous owner so after several hours of examination and a test ride I forked over the cash we hooked up and headed home. It wasn't until a week later when we put the boat in the water to switch trailers around that I noticed a 2-3 inch list to starboard. It is listing to the side that has both batteries on it and the port side has the empty fresh water tank but the water tank is only 8Gal (70 ish pounds full) and it takes my 250lbs on the port side to level her out. I have read some forums about water being trapped but I don't hear any and of saturation but could the core hold that much water? Also regarding the core we did thorough checking of the hull, bilge/engine compartment, and deck and found no evidence of softness, staining or any other indicators of water ingress. I have not been able to pinpoint anything obvious and I am hoping to get some guidance on next steps. Picture attached. The vessel sits level on plane but lists at rest and off plane. I am really hoping I didn't just make a very expensive mistake. We did not ever see the boat at rest because the previous owner was aboard when we launched it for the test drive. Kicking myself for not examining the boat empty but in the water. I really thought we had been very thorough. Help

It happens and is usually caused by 3 factors; Poor weight distribution (more apparent on small beam boats), Water Absorption in cored hulls, or bad design with equipment placement. I have a 2004 420 and it lists a little to the Stb too. I was wondering about that and had it checked. It has no water absorption and the hull is solid. The galley is on that side and I'm thinking they didn't think through equipment placement and it's heavier on that side. Regardless, I'd have it pulled and surveyed if you're concerned. Welcome to boating. :)
Ive been racking my brain trying to figure out why my 2005 420 is leaning to stbd at rest. Couldn't find anything below deck indicating a leak, and even tried shifting things around in the cabins, but couldn't correct it. It was surveyed last fall when I bought it, and i was there for that, and it wasn't mentioned at all. So, you think its just the way it is? I certainly can't find a reason for it.

Lots of discussion about this in the 420/44db thread. Most guys that are really concerned about it put lead in the the second cabin under the port berth. About 300 lbs fixes it. I just kept less fuel in the Strbrd tank
