Our boat has a Raystar 125 is connected to a SeaTalkng buss. The battery seems to be going and GPS replacement is in the plan. The question is whether the replacement 150 can just plugged into the 125’s plug. Anybody know?

The SeaTalkNG is just NEMA2000 and any N2K GPS should be recognized by the Raymarine. I have a Garmin GPS from a previous install and my Axioms recognize it on the N2K bus.

Isn't the 125 old tech and using a direct connect to the chartplotter vs. N2K? I had one on a new boat that was commissioned in 2005.

I am thinking it might be seatalk not seatalkng which would be the old nema0183

Why don't you just replace the battery in the 125?

I wasn’t aware the battery can be changed. I know on older versions it was hardwired. In any event, it’s mounted on top of a five foot mast on top of the Hardtop. If I’m going up there it damn well be for a good reason.

The Raystar 125 is a NMEA 0183 / old Seatalk interface and not SeatalkNG / NMEA 2000. Regarding your question about the plug on the base of the receiver, is it's proprietorial and nothing else will attach.
Sorry but that's the story....

Yes and no. The 125 was built with both SeaTalk and NMEA. They came with the ability to be wired to either ST, or NMEA.

BTW NMEA2000 and SeaTalk are the “same”, although the pin out for the cables is different. To connect the two you either need to splice a 2000 NG cable together, or buy an adapter.

I have both networks and they are connected through a spliced cable.

Sorry, that’s not the story, it is NG/NMEA2000. I’d rather not have to scan and post the installation docs.

The question is whether the Raymarine 125 plug will fit into the Raymarine RS150. Both are NG/nmea2000.

Henry, the 125 predated the advent of SeaTalkNG. But, later models (125 Plus?) were sold with a downstream NG converter, sounds like that is what you have. The connector at the antenna, however, is still the old proprietary Seatalk connector. So, no, I don't believe you can re-use the cable. Agree with others about exploring a battery replacement as a first pass fix.

Why not give Raymarine a quick call to find out if there's a replaceable battery. I've found them very responsive in the past.

I do cannot comment on the network on the GPS but I can tell you the battery on the old GPS raystar 125 is very easy to replace and will help the speed of Acquisition of the satellites and stability of the connections . Search this site for how to replace the batteries
