327 Small block Chevy
Hello everyone. I just acquired a beautiful 1970 Sea Rey Pachanga. 327 small block Chevy with an Mercury outdrive. The type drive that is vacuume assist foreword and reverse shift. The boat is 18’ and has been sitting for at least 15 years. It looks to be in great shape and I want to restore it. I hear the vacuume assist shift is crap and needs to come out and be replaced. My question is what outdrive and will I need, and will I need to re-glass the transom. I’m a jet boat owner and new to outdrives. HELP ME PLEASE

Just finished doing the same on my 69 pachanga. I pulled motor and out drive and replaced out drive and transom plate with a alpha 1 gen.2 .just make sure the alignment is correct with gimble.i did glassworks because I replaced transom while I had it apart.

10-4. Did you redu the transom just because of the age of the boat or because the newer outdrive required it. Or both. My question is will the alpha 1 gen 2 fit in the opening of the original outdrive. Thanks for your help. The original owner of this boat tells me this boat is worth a lot of money because they didn’t make very of them. What do you think about that. I am offering him 1500.00 as is. With 327 motor and crappy outdrive

It will fit you will have swap the transom plate on the inside they are different from the previous alpha plate.you may have to trim or grind a little but it is the same as far as cutout in transom .my transom was weak no sealant around swim platform etc. 1500 not bad at all. I believe they only made around 400 of them from 69 to 73 I think. Mine has a sbc 450hp. That I built. It's a kick in the pants .I need a taller prop. But it still runs out good.if you can find a late 80s v8 mercruiser with a busted motor is the cheapest or most economical way to get everything you need at once..what color is yours..

It’s the yellow color with the black stripes. I hear that’s one of the original paint schemes. The guy spent money on the paint and seats before he got the outdrive fixed. I understand the motor is a 4 bolt main. Steel crank with 400 heads. Thanks for the information. Any tips are welcome. I’m in the Phoenix area the boat was originally from Michigan. I understand Sea Rey is in Phoenix I’ll probably drag the boat over to them to get a estimated value on it
