California is Beta Testing AOC's Green New Deal.

Yet another business sector (utilities) that should not be privatized. This is what happens. They didn't update their equipment after getting sued for the last fire they caused, so now they hold the state hostage and just shut off the power. This would never happen in Canada for example where all utilities are crown corporations.

Canada is one thing but in this country the problem is that most things the government gets involved with turn to crap. Our politicians can corrupt just about anything you could think of.

Have two children effected by these fires. One had a cold house that smelled like smoke inside for 5 days and the other lived just 8 miles from the Northern California fire in Guerneville. We thought his house was a goner but it was saved by lots of firefighters and a wind shift. Neither of them have a bad thing to say about PG and E. One son has a neighbor with two dead trees beneath a power line. The utility has been trying to get permission to remove them for a very long time without success. Turning the power off saved his neighborhood as tree branches came down on lines during 93 mph gusts and would have sparked fires. The Sierra Club has been fighting PG and Es attempt to widen the clear cutting beneath power line parameters for ages. The required clear cut is 4' beneath lines and around poles. PG and E is trying for 15' on each side of the line. So far the Sierra Club has prevailed.

Interesting. I have many friends in the bay area. None of them have a single good thing to say about PG&E. Two sides to every coin.

The utility is bankrupt from customers suing it into near insolvency. Then people complain about failures to maintain infrastructure, poor service, and the list goes on. Californians have an interesting way of doing business given all the rules and regulations. People ask us all the time if we plan on moving there to be near our children. We'd be crazy to even consider that option.

Or maybe they’re bankrupt from bankrolling profits and placing those in execs pockets rather than upgrading equipment. Maybe they could have avoided lawsuits if faulty equipment didn’t cause fires? Hmm ..guess we’ll never know.

Yeah you would hate Cali.

Consider a move to California (or NY) these days is like buying a ticket on the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.
