Questions...No Glomax TV Antenna Reception at the Cabin TVs

Our cabins each have a TV. If I put them on channel 14 by design they display the whatever the Sat Dish is tuned to and that works fine.

So based on the above I know I have a RG6 connection to the Cabin TVs from the Glomax Booster that has an Input from the TV Antenna and Sat Dish/Tuner.

In the Salon and Fly Bridge the TV's have a good TV Antenna connection.

So based on the above I believe my TV Antenna, Sat Dish, and Glomax Booster to be working correctly.

The issue is the cabin TV's have no Glomax Antenna reception but again they play CH 14 Sat TV.

Bad Connectors? Am i missing something? Glomax Booster can't push all the way to the Lower Cabins? New boat to me so not sure when it worked correctly if ever.

Any ideas?

when we were at Kent Narrows last summer, we had reasonable success with Glomax reception. I would think at Annapolis your reception would be better. I would expect to get 30+ channels.

Not totally clear with the term "Glomax Booster". The "booster" part. Is this something different than a normal Glomax source?

I am just throwing this out there.... My satellite input is different from my glomax antenna input... So from the remote I have to change the tv input from satellite, antenna and or DVD.
To make matters more complicated I have Visio in main salon and RCA in master and aft. When I change boat locations my Visio will pickup antenna channels just fine but the two RCA's need to find channels thru the search channel function to get the same channels that the Visio never lost

If as originally installed I believe the RG6 coax cable runs from Glomex antenna to the Glomex booster then to a series of splitters to each television. The Satellite DSS signal is modulated to a channel (which is 14 in your case) and then mixed using a splitter with the over the air signal from the Glomex booster and routed to the televisions. So, it wouldn't make sense that you could receive the DSS but not the HD TV feed from the antenna other than probably do an auto-search on the televisions or there is a conflict with channel 14 and you would need to change that. Regardless, the video quality is and will be very poor to the televisions using this configuration. As an economical upgrade to HDMI, I would utilize the splitters in the line from the Glomex booster and feed each television the RG6 coax (existing) then install at each television a common ATSC to HDMI converter then connect to one of the television's HDMI port (you might need to upgrade the televisions). Then completely disconnect the DSS from the modulator (eliminate the modulator) and separately route HDMI via a splitter to each of the televisions. In this configuration you can watch over the air ATSC broadcasting on one TV HDMI input and the DSS on another HDMI input. Your video quality will be greatly improved. The Bose audio in the Solon then becomes an issue with this configuration as you have split the signals. The simple solution is to connect and route an optical TosLink cable from the solon television to the Bose system; now you get the HDMI audio feed from the solon television to the Bose system.

Try an Auto-Scan for channels.

At our slip we receive 40+ channels. That is the problem though, the salon TV and the bridge tv have great reception.

The cabin tv’s only receive channel 14 from the satellite dish.

All other channels are static even after multiple auto scans.

the schematic drawing in the TT Mott’s post ... is exactly correct.

Ok that helps. Didn’t realize the TV (over the air) antenna is probably receiving a digital signal and the older tv’s cannot decode it. The new bridge tv decodes it fine (even gives a tv Guide) and the Salon TV is older but it is a larger tv that probably has a decoder (for lack of better words).

Our boat has A/B switches in closets near the TVs. So we can pick different inputs. Maybe?

For the older RCA tv's, either add a digital OTA tuner or replace them. I agree that your issue sounds like not being able to receive a digital signal. I would also suggest upgrading the RCA tv's as you could then use hdmi cables and get much better resolution than the modulated DSS signal.

Thanks for the help everyone

Replaced the cabin and Salon TV’s this weekend. What a difference the new technology makes.

Went with the Visio 24” D Series TV’ for the cabins and 43” TCL for the Salon.

found out that the KVH (picture) was not connected. So I guess the new Satellite Boxes take over and the KVH controller is not needed?

thanks again everyone (ttmott) for reminding me that the tv signal broadcast is digital and that is why none of the old school tv’s worked with the antenna.

The broadcast Tv signal, in my marina works surprisingly well, 40+ channels and many of those are HD.
