Marina Comparison - Port Clinton/Marblehead

Safe harbor marina in Port Clinton is loaded with mosquitoes . There is a swamp area next to the marina and the mosquitoes that come out of there at dusk and into the evening make it impossible to sit on the boat. Even early in the morning. Also the channel is filling in with sand.
Even out side of the channel it is shallow.

I am there and don't have any mosquito problems. Where are you talking about ?... I have been on the 100 side and 700 side and never experienced a mosquito problem. I also don't have a problem in the channel, a friend just brought his sailboat in there with 4-1/2' draft and had no problem.

Ok you never stay on your boat in the evenings you mostly go to the bay on weekends. I am on pier 700 and anyone docking there will talk about the mosquitoes. Also people from Spinnaker Bay will say the same thing. One of the dockers on pier 700 right across from you was bitten over 25 times on his back sitting at the deck between 700 and 600. True alcohol had something to do with him setting outside. When one of the 700 pier dockers left the marina he recorded 1.5 feet under his boat. Also the marina is aware of this problem but can only dredge the channel.

Also at the end of the season a sailboat was stuck at the end of the channel had to be pulled free by a power boat. He was docked on per 700 for one night and we helped him get under way to in turn see him get stuck at the end of the channel. By the way the picture you are showing is not from Lakefront Marina

Ok you never stay on your boat
Doug .. We met once last year when we were new and I came over and introduced myself. I am sure you can find fault with any Marina. This place has a great heart ...I don't know where you can find a better yacht club and the people that go there.... Or a better person than Deb and the rest of management and the Marina team. The great thing about a boat is you can go where ever you want. I heard your group was leaving again for another Marina .... I hope you guys find a place you like...good luck

Read closer what I have written never cut down the staff, never said the marina wasn't nice, just stated the facts of what is happening so no one is disappointed in their choice. At $2500 for the dock it is a good deal. Although I hear after the year 2020 our price will go up to the same as the rest of the marina. As far as leaving again we were at the last marina for 15 years.

I don't need to read closer... You said negative things about the Marina that simply aren't true... I hope you find a place that makes you and your friends happy.

This website is about boaters asking questions and learning. Not about someone wanting to battle there opinions. No one cares to read about \these kind of writings so as to anymore statements as a favor to the form I shall cease and desist from any further conversation on this subject. And I do apologize to the readers for where this has headed.

I've been at Midway Marina for 6 years, liveaboard from April 1st to November 1st. It's okay. Nice, wide fairways, decent restroom/shower facilities(no climate control). Nice pool, crowded, but nice. Convenient store, deli, gas station for cars, golf carts, etc., mediocre restaurant all on site with friendly dockers, etc... No inside heated storage and if you don't store there they don't guarantee your dock for the following season. Dusty gravel road/parking area with room for a car, dock box, grill, picnic table and stuff. 2 dog walks. Excellent mechanic, but they don't work on outboards or diesels. Excellent lay up services. Pumpouts are dockside and cost $22(maybe $24) + tax. 20 minutes through the channel to the lake. Outside contractors have to sign in and have to pay a 10% fee to work on your boat. If you want a 2nd dock less than 40' you get a 50% discount. All of the docks are fixed concrete docks with the exception of 8 45' floaters which has a waiting list longer than my good arm. There's also a waiting list for the 40' fixed docks. They do have shore power issues at certain slips. Midway Marina is definitely the best bang for your buck with 40' docks starting at $1600 and 30' floaters with no power or water for $750. I forgot to mention the shit ton of 30' floaters, but they don't have electric or water hookup, but they're pretty full, mostly with fishing boats and people's 2nd play boats.

We've been pretty happy there but really want to do heated storage which is what we're doing this year. We've been on a waiting list at Catawba Moorings for 4 years for one of the 50' floaters and finally got the call that there was an opening and if we stored there the slip was ours. We're making the move. They're definitely more expensive than Midway and have the same storage to dock rule but it's worth it to us. Plus that is where we get our fuel and pumpouts for both of our boats and it's a tad bit closer to the lake. We've been very pleased with the gas dock and customer service at CM and we know fellow boaters that dock there and we've never heard any complaints.

I'm not saying don't choose Midway, but check out all options. If they offered heated storage, we'd stay for sure.

Good luck! That's my $0.02! YMMV

Cheers

Thanks to all for your thoughts and suggestions. We're currently on the wait list at both Catawba Moorings and Bay Point. I like the amenities and location of Gem Beach but am slightly concerned about the docks if we have high water levels again next spring.

Bay Point has a lot to offer. I was there for over 20 years had a trailer on the beach and a boat in the marina. Good people great staff and alot to do there.
Wave Runner rentals water taxi to take you to Sandusky, or Cedar Point. Nice big beach, swimming pools restaurant and bars. I would have to say the best marina on all the great lakes. Even a 9 hole golf course.
Only reason I left kids grew up no need for boat and the trailer on beach. Also had alot of friends in another marina

Agreed on BP. I will be very happy if a spot opens up. Otherwise, Gem Beach seems nice and it is pretty well priced.

The Nor Easter club is basically what it says. A Club yes there are docks although no repair service, and no fuel docks.

I submitted an information request. The website doesn't say much but people on Facebook seem to like it. Might as well find out what all they offer. Thanks for the tip!
Might be worth a trip next time you're here. I go by it all the time since I have friends on Harbor Island.

Bay Point offers service on site and On site outdoor storage. I store Inside heated at Mirror Image detailing and storage but there are lots of good options around. By the way, pool at Bay Point is at an additional fee per year. I think $480.
Boatguy49036, reading thru lots of threads, quick question are you on G dock?
