I left Boston on Monday. Cape Cod bay was pretty rough on the way to the canal. I forgot how beat up and worn out it makes you. Fueled up in Sandwich.
The canal was smooth, as was Buzzards Bay surprisingly.
Made it to a small marina in Westport by late afternoon.
Gassed, and docked for the night. Since my plan was/is to make it to Mystic CT,
I’m going across RI, and Block Island sound..since conditions both turned snotty, I decided to retreat back east a few miles to a port with more civilization to either wait it out, or head back home. So, now I’m on my third night in Fairhaven New Bedford. A new place for me and very historic.
I really don’t want to turn back, even though I’ve got a decent amount of time on the water.
If the prediction of 2-3’ seas holds out for the weekend, I’ll suck it up, and shoot across RI sound, in to Long Island sound, where it’s been nothing but calm 1’
Seas. Definitely hit Mystic, and the more I look..NY city doesn’t look too far out of the question either.

I was just looking at the weather for this coming weekend and today looks fine at the station south of Cuttyhunk Hunk island. They are calling for 2ft seas but on a 14 sec interval so just some small swells and not much wind forecasted so shouldn’t pick up too much. Block island station is saying the same thing. Not too much wind anticipated for Saturday and Sunday as well. Looks like a pretty good travel window to me. Where are you heading?

Sounds like a cool trip! I had a gander at your current location on google maps. You east coast guys sure do have some neat places to boat, even if mostly salty :)

Share pics!

Today it still says 4’ seas for RI sound..don’t want anything to
Do with that lol..
Planning on heading out tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
Stay a night in Point Judith, then head to Mystic CT.
From there..we’ll see. Maybe all the way to NY.

Trip update, day 9.
I’ve overnighted in Westport ma, New Bedford, Point Judith,
Mystic, and now here in Norwalk Ct.
I’ve really enjoyed all the ports/marinas and different towns.
It’s a different lifestyle just cruising from destination to destination.
The seas have been a mixed bag, however.
I’ve pushed through some rougher conditions, and been graced with smoother stuff too.
Today for example it still says Long Island sound, west of New haven is 1’ or less. WRONG.
I left this morning from Norwalk and immediately was taking lots of spray in the face. And covering the whole bot with a fresh coat of salt.
I was suspect of the 1’ forecast with the 20kt winds, and in fact the seas were all of 2-3’ white caps.
I wanted to make it to NYC today, but am not in the fighting spirit to battle it out at 10-13mph through that slop. Again.
Yesterday in the sound I came across a US Navy Submarine..
Was foggy so I didn’t see it until I was within a 1/4 mile.
Got radioed to stay the 500 yards away, which I did but it wasn’t easy as it was headed towards me and the seas were keeping my speed down. Still kind of interesting.
Anyway, I topped off this morning, then again -10 gallons-after heading back. The girl at the gas dock was really nice both times, and now I have a date for dinner tonight.
Nice.
Time to clean the 260 again.
Which I have to say, this boat (knock on wood) has really been phenomenal. All systems go. Running like a top.
She’s handling the seas like a champ. I can’t stress enough what a big difference it is with the 496mag, vs the 350.
RAYMARINE gps and radar are growing on me too, I was used to Garmin. Although one of the dome connections comes loose every once in a while.
I was tempted the other morning to say screw it!...but I’m glad I didn’t. I took the 20 min to get after it and sure enough, had some serious fog early on that trip.
I’ve rambled enough.
I found I can record my routed on this NAV app I have..I’ll try and include a pic of it here..show my thwarted attempt this morning.
Hopefully NYC tomorrow
