58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

Anybody have their engine hours dramatically increase? Two years ago, my stbd engine suddenly indicated 52,329 hours one day. It is caused by a soldered-in battery on the MMDS board. My "MAN man" sent the board off to MAN for a fix. Last week, my port engine read 520,543 hours! Same thing. Since most of our boats are the same age, you may see this someday. MAN says it's OK to continue to run until you get it fixed...

I had to do the same thing to mine but my Mechanic said not to run it until it was reinstalled

Hey guys, not sure anyone saw my separate thread on the location of the A/C relay box where the triggers are located for the four a/c units. For future reference for this esteemed group, here's what I found and posted;

Sea Ray customer service did another great job in telling me where to look for this relay box. It is located behind the port salon couch under the MDP (not very accessible). I found it easiest to get to the box by removing the center couch cushion and frame then climbing into the void. BTW, this is the first time ever that CSR members did not have the answer to a question I had. Maybe all the 58DB owners are out on the high seas on their boats

Thanks Brian - I'll add this to my 58DB Knowledgebase Document!

Do you call them or email them?
I call them, very helpful. They have almost always been able to get me an answer while on the phone. They must have some data base at their disposal.

Hello all,

I just acquired an ‘05 550 DB. Love the boat. Tending to a few minor repairs and updates. Does anybody know how to get at the salon indirect in the columns?

Sea Ray tech service was helpful but the drawings didn’t show the fastener approach.

Oh LOL!! I don't know of a single 58 where those lights work!! Sea Ray said they are held on with "christmas tree" friction clips. They are on my list to fix, but they haven't surfaced to the top yet!!

Don’t let me ruin it for you guys... I was told Christmas tree fasteners too. However, I found out the hard way that they are actually screwed on from behind. Pry hard enough and you’ll see what I mean. Summer went by without ordering the 1/4” rope lighting so it’s on the spring punch list at this point.

FWIW I did replace the rope lighting under the vanity in the master head.

Brian - when you did your fuel filters last year were they simple to change or were there some challenges. I know the water sensor on the Mann and Hummel filter bowl is delicate...

When I watched my "MAN man" do them last year, the priming pump didn't seem to do much and there was a lot of cranking involved to get them running again...

Carter, the Hummel filters were tight so a bit of effort to get them off. Both of my water sensors had to be replaced due to chafed wiring right at the bowl. I did not have any unusual issues with getting the filters primed with the priming pump, though it always feels like it takes too long.

Thanks Brian. did you drain the last two filters before changing them?

This is the extendable strap wrench that my "MAN man" used on the Mann and Hummel filters:

Carter, I actually had the mechanic change the filters during my major service, but I did watch him. Yes, they drained the filters before changing them. They used a regular filter wrench to remove but I could see where that wrench might provide more torque without slipping.

Hey guys I can’t get the link to open to the strap wrench - just goes to the homepage. Anyway though, what filter are you removing with this wrench? Granted, I don’t do my own oil/filter changes, but I’m really curious about this? Hummel filter?

Yes Jeff - that's the wrench that my mechanic used to remove the Mann and Hummel filter. It is item # 62489 KL Heavy Duty Chain Wrench.

Jeff - how do you get to the back of those panels to unscrew them???

You don’t/can’t. I pried hard enough thinking they were super tough Christmas tree clips (as SR customer support guessed) and ended up ripping it right off the screws! As far as I can tell there is no other way. They had to have been preassembled and then the salon built around them?
