I ordered a trailer from Loadmaster in Port Clinton Ohio a few months ago.
I decided a couple weeks ago to go pick it up and make a little trip out of it.
My wife has a friend in Wyoming that has a tanning business that specializes in buffalo coats (they made Kurt Russell's coat in the Hateful Eight movie.)
I thought we'd pick up the trailer and take our time coming back to visit the sights, then their shop.
As I was mapping it out I noticed that Niagra Falls is only 4 1/2 hours or so away, so now we are spending a couple of nights in Ontario as neither of us has been there before.
It's going to be more of a drive a lot type trip, but still should be a fun one.
Looking forward to seeing the Great Lakes area, even if it is just driving through.

I know, but this trip is only to pick up the trailer.
I shouldn't need anything special for that.

When’s the trip? Beautiful time of the year in this area. The falls are about 90 minutes from us and quite a sight the first time you see them

We're leaving this Friday, staying at the falls Monday and Tuesday nights.
I have the Marriott Fallsview hotel booked, says it's the closest to the falls on the Ontario side.
Good to hear it's a food time for a visit.

Nice trip! We are near Pittsburgh about 90 minutes from Erie PA. Port Clinton is a nice area too. Been to Niagara Falls a few times too.

About 6 weeks ago my son had to drive from Pittsburgh to western North Dakota towing his 8000lb camper but he didn't have the luxury to stop and site see. Enjoy it!

Be sure to follow their instructions as far as tightening the lugs after 30 miles. I swear I could have spun them off by hand.

Drive thru Canada and check out some of Michigan while you're at it! Sounds like a fun road trip.

How wide is the trailer?

A 310 with an arch is 10’ wide (over width) and will be over 14’ tall if the trailer fenders are under the hull. If the
“Keel” is less than a foot from the road surface, you’ll be OK on height but the wheels/fenders would have to be outside the hull making the trailer wider than the boat.

Here’s mine ready for the road. Antennas and anchor light removed.

I plan on crossing around Port Huron on hwy 69 and traveling through Canada from there.

If you're not in a hurry....consider crossing further south from 96 instead of 69 via Ambassador Bridge and making a lunch stop. There's a really good BBQ place (with a great beer selection) in Corktown called Slows. It's right across from the old Grand Central Station, a stones throw from the Canada crossing. A neat lunch spot. There's also a really cool distillery a few blocks west called St. James. Also worth a stop.

Otherwise, enjoy your trip through Flint, MI on 69. I spent 5 years going to school in Flint...and can't recommend any stops for you :)

Thank you, I'll look into that route.
I just looked and see that goes right through Detroit.
How's the traffic through there?

I'd imagine mid-day wouldn't be too bad? You can surely keep an eye on it as you approach the decision making point between 96 and 69.

If your schedule has you further west around lunch/dinner time I'd suggest stopping on the Lake Michigan side if you have a chance. If you're coming up 94/196 you could stop at a couple of really cool waterfront spots in South Haven or Saugatuck. Then shoot straight across Michigan from there.

My original plan was to stay the night in Lansing, so that's appx the distance we'll be.

Port Clinton is where the high-speed ferries run to the village of Put-In Bay on South Bass Island. If you want to see Great Lakes boating destinations, that's one to see. The slower car/passenger ferry port is 10 minutes away from that. It drops you on the far side of the island from town, but the schedule is better.

I agree that South Haven or Saugatuck would be good places to stop, I'd go north from there to the Grand Traverse area of Michigan and then up across the bridge with maybe a stop at Mackinac Island on the way.

Greg, I've driven that route from Port Huron/Sarnia to Niagara Falls. Nice trip and a fairly easy drive. I'd avoid downtown Detroit like the plague. The roads are horrible, traffic is heavy.

Make sure you have all your trailer paperwork in order to ease going through customs on both sides of the border.

Getting the trailer on the way back.
I wouldn't want to take it to Niagra Falls.

If you cross at Port Huron to Niagara falls is 4 hours. The shorter distance to Port Clinton from there is crossing over to Buffalo and take 90 thru Erie and Cleveland.... You can call yourself an Erie Looper after that trip :)
