OK, I admit I'm not the biggest NFL fan in the US but I'm paying Direct TV for a couple of channels that I'm supposed to get games on, and don't have them. Direct TV is in a pissing match over prices so they aren't paying the price and just black out the games in many areas.

I finally got pissed off enough to call and threaten to quit and miraculously they have a solution-->they're going to send me, for free, an antenna that pics up those channels off the airwaves so we can watch the games. And if I call them for advice on how to hook it up they will do that. All for free.

Those wonderful guys at Direct TV. They may not speak English but they sure know how we want our football.

When you get the antenna, if it works well, could you list the make and model number?

Thank you

Completely mad at the wrong entity. ESPN/Disney is the most expensive channel on cable, and now they want more. D-TV is trying not to spend anymore of your money on ESPN than they must. Please blame the right guys. FYI, I hate all the TV providers. Cut the cord...

I cut the cord several years ago and couldn't be happier.
This site will help you figure out what channels you can get, and the best type of antenna for your area.

I feel your pain. I live in Maryland and am a Ravens fan, but since DC has the Redskins - FOX bought the rights to week 2 and only aired local teams to certain areas. Eastern Shore and northern MD were able to watch FOX 45, the Baltimore FOX channel. Areas around DC and south could only watch FOX 5 and the Redskins. This happens every year. We are Marylanders as well. Cannot get FOX 45 in any way other than through a provider this far south. Antennas don't cut it. DirecTV did offer the game at $70.00, which is crazy. Other issue is if you subscribe to DirTV as a new subscriber you get Sunday ticket with it. As a 34 year subscriber, I asked to get it as new subscribers do and was denied. I am moving to streaming in October when my 2 year DirTV contract is done. Still will have the Local FOX issue, but only paying half of what DirTV was charging for better channel line up.

Greg, thanks for that link. When you are getting signals from local towers, is your "smart TV" of any use? What and how do you get things like serials?

I don't have a smart TV, so I don't know how that would work.
Serials???

Don’t get me started on the whole tv thing.

I dropped the NFL package for personal reasons, then got tired of climbing my roof to get snow off the dish in winter.

Then the UFC goes streaming so I have to subscribe to ESPN+ just so I can pay $69 to see ppv fights. I used to buy all the fights and enjoy on my 80inch tv.

They lost my business.

Told ya not to get me started

I thought I saw that Dtv and ESPN had resolved their contract?

Going to be in big trouble with the wife if we get to the boat and there is no ESPN...

No. smart TV is from internet connection.

MM
I have a Tivo with lifetime subscription and it's hooked up to the net.
I have it for the on screen menu, and DVR. Maybe the smart TV would be of use.

Smart TV’s are so inexpensive these days that it might be worth getting one.
I put 3 of them on my boat last year. All are 24” that cost me about $139.00 each. They’re bigger than the ones they replaced and plenty big enough for anything I watch on the boat.
If you don’t want to deal with swapping out TV’s you can always pick up a ROKU, Amazon Firestick, or Apple TV device. They all work very well.
No internet isn’t necessarily a problem either. Most cell phones can be used as hot spots that your TV or streaming device can connect to.
I have an unlimited data plan on my iPad so I use that to stream and as a hotspot on the boat.

Being mad at anyone about a game? No I stopped doing that in high school. Now if they drop the weather channel, there's gonna be a big ol' can-o'-whoopass up in here.

I just setup utube tv that is live... The network channels are attached to your zip code... So you get local programming. That didn't work for my place in Michigan so I setup a guest account with that zip code.... So not proven yet but if a game is blackout in Indy I can switch to my Michigan address account.

At home we have FIOS. A year or two ago they dropped Weather Channel and replaced with Accuweather. Hate it..

Same here! Accuweather sucks. But of the two choices we have for Internet and TV providers around here FIOS is so much better than the other company that I put up with it.

I complained to Directv and threatened to leave as I do every time they try to double my rate and they kept it the same and threw in the Sunday Ticket. You have to get to the second tier person that has some authority. A $20 antenna really? I tried to get them to just give me a $350 credit cause I don't watch a lot of NFL games but they said no.
Worth a try. Just call and demand to speak to someone in cancellations when you get someone without an Indian accent you will know you are in the right place...

Last summer it seemed like I was on the phone with Dtv at least once a month.

Every single time, they wanted to know who my cell phone carrier was (I guess the ATT thing).

Very routine question, right after account number, your name, and who is your cell phone carrier. Never would answer the question.

At one point was on the phone with a 2nd level person. She came on the line, I was not in a good mood.

I asked her - who is your cell phone carrier. She paused, didn't say anything for a bit, then said "I don't think that has anything to do with the problem you are having with your satellite reception". Then quit asking me...

Lol! That’s what I do with SiriusXM every year.
