Hello Folks,

New 2002 510 DA owner. Is there an official group of, 2000-2004ish or so, 510 owners or should we start one? Thanks in advance.

Watler

OK Team, I've gone ahead and done it. I'm going to use this as the official early to mid 2000's era 510 DA owners/lovers thread. If there is a better thread or anyone objects, just let me know and I'll jump on a more appropriate thread.

New 2002 510 owner. "Zhopka" has twin Cummins QSM 11's with 975 hours. She was meticulously cared for by her previous Chicago area based owners who have every receipt and service record imaginable. I can't wait to share ideas, overall knowledge, experiences, trials & tribulations, etc. Look forward to meeting others who love this magnificent boat.

Cheers,

Walter

Congrats... We'll have to stay in touch. I'll be monitoring and posting. I'm pretty good about noticing every darn useless thing ever and keeping it in the back of my mind until needed. I'll also need help I'm sure.

Just picked my 510 up 4 months ago. Been doing a lot of catch-up on the things that were supposedly done.
One shake down cruse of 16 hours. Nice boat. Just a lot of fiberglass to manage

I can't help but notice the lack of input on this thread. One of the reasons I monitor this site is to see any maintnencd issues are discusses owners come across. I'm supposing not seeing many write ups, folks chatting about this and that means these SeaRays are pretty much with out issues. Great

Well I have a small issue; the instrumentation and panel back ground lights. They are suppose to come on when the nav lights are activated; mine do not. I replaced the dimmer set up for the over head spoiler lights. That works great. When That unit was replaced I did not notice any wires going to the insrumintation. The wires coming from the SeaRay dimmer were all stenciled/marked spoiler. I don't see an additional dimmer, wiring or on/off switch dedicated to instruminaion lighting. Additionally; are there suppose to be back lights for the switch panel?

Mean while the boat runs great. Getting the radar slapped back on top and the canvas finished this week.

I'll chime in here a bit. I just started this string after the recent purchase of our 510. We actually close this Friday, so, haven't spent much time on the the boat just yet. I didn't find a 510 specific thread and though we should get one going. We'll be going through the boat, as owners now, this weekend before getting ready to go to storage for the winter months in Chicago. In the mean time, I'll ask around my circle of friends to see what might be going on.

Best,

Walter

@stephens013-

Behind your instrument panel you should see strips of foil tape running left to right below each row of switches. That tape holds the background lighting in place. At one end or another where the wires exit the tape, follow them until you find a small transformer. It is likely that your transformer is faulty.

The arch dimmer does not control the instrument lights. There should be an addition rocker type switch simply labeled “dimmer.”

The dimmer switch on my panel was to the dimmer control module for the over head lights. I wired that back into the new BlueSea dimmer unit. Last time I had that switch plate out I noticed what I believe is the transformer. I mean this isn’t one of those major deals but it would be nice to have operational. Something to fiddle with during the down times. Thanks for the advice.

Just an FYI the dimmer for the switches also dims the gauges and the Sea Ray monitor screen. You’ll appreciate having those dim if you you’re navigating at night. There must be a different dimmer switch or rotary dial on the dash somewhere for this feature.

You wouldn't happen to know what color wires SeaRay used to carry power to the instrument lights? Just don't want to go wiring power into where it shouldn't go.

I’m sorry, I do not. Probably detailed in your owners manual or confirmed by physically tracing the actual wires.

Sorry for my delay, but, we just officially took delivery of ours mid week. This weekend was the first nights on the boat and long cruise. I personally don't know the wire color scheme.

As Jeff said, under the Lights Section, the Navigation sw turns on the nav lights and the back lit instrument/panel . The "Dimmer" dims the backlit instruments. Not sure I can be much more help than that at this time. Hope it works out.

Thanks all. I'm thinking the back lights are missing from my switch panel are gone. I don't recall seeing anyhting resembling that kind of set up. Not the biggest of issues with them located on the side. Might do some sort of led set up later on. Just have to get back in there and see where that little kick down transformer might be.
I see some creative electrical goings on in my future

Keep us posted. I'll definitely need this group if I run into any problems going forward. We've only been on ZHOPKA for a few days and are still getting to know her. I have a few things I'm taking note of and will post, what I know and what I'd like to know, in the next few days.

Such a beautiful, strong and impressive boat. We're thrilled.

Just noted Zhopka has Cummins power plants. My boat has Catapiller 3196 motors. I replaced the aftrecoolers PDQ so she should be good to go for some time. Anyway, I'm running 660 hp a side; wot is around 30 mph plus dependent on weight. Of course I was really interested in the cruse power settings, on plane numbers and so on. I've been told the Cummins powered boats are much faster and their cruse numbers are better. Did you let the ponies run on your shake down; any idea what your boat will do.

You know we were so much in awe at being out on the water on this beautiful boat I didn't take notice of what the wide open was. I'll be back on her next weekend, as we're going out of town for a couple of days, I'll let you knowk.

New dingy pretty much fills up the swim platform
