Dinghy Cover On Davits Traveling?

Mike, if you REALLY want to keep the water out have a cover made of Stamoid material. Have it made up with an elastic bottom or a draw string(rope) that can be snugged to keep the cover tight.

Stamoid is heavier weight than Sunbrella but it's impermeable to water.

If you do significant cruising, draw string will not hold up.

I rigged small lines on the side tabs, throw over the backside and pull them under with the boat hook. Permanent loop that I put a short bungee through and secure to a loop.

Fought keeping a cover on for years. This is quick, easy, and durable.

Mike I cruise with mine on all the time without any trouble. I can't remember where I got it, but I believe it was Boat Covers Direct. I bought mine in 2017 and it's still in great shape. I did pretty much the same thing as FootballFan did except I just use bungees. I don't get any water inside at all. I'll try to post pics. Edit: I can see the pics. hope you can also. I have trouble with the work computer so let me know if you don't see them and I'll post them off my phone.

Have your canvas guy/gal make you a cover with a tent pole in the middle and clips that attach to the rub rail on the dinghy. The tension from the tent pole will keep it attached in any weather/wind condition and water rolls off.

Jeff, that's a nice looking setup you had made. I'm curious about the clips. Can you show a close up or provide a link to them?

Carter and I have the same tender. He has the tent pole and I can see where it would be great to keep water running off.

I don't have a tent pole, but I run a line from the hand rail at the top of the center console to one of the rear cleats before I put the cover on. Raises it enough that it doesn't collect water.

On my previous tender, after about a year, the drawstring wasn't effective. Same thing happed with this tender after a year. That's when I went to the line/bungee cord approach.

We cruise a lot at 20+ knots. If it is into a 10knot wind, then we have 30 knots of wind. This is where the drawstring quits holding it and the cords do hold it.

Boat neighbor had the same type of cover, I am pretty sure it came from the dingy manufacturer and attached like yours to the rub rail... He never had a problem either

I just can't figure my work computer out. Let me see if this works. Although it don't look as good as Jeff's it does work.

I run with my cover on with no problems. The cover is from the manufacturer and is made specially for my tender. It is the first season so maybe the elastic will give way eventually. I don’t get any puddling on the top.

Jeff, the link worked. Thanks. I hadn't seen clips like that before. I have a Whaler so they wouldn't work on it, but it's always nice to have that information to file away in the back of my feeble old brain.

Joe and Jeremy, both of your setups look good. We tow our Whaler (13' with a 40hp Merc) because it's just too much weight to hang off the stern. If I were ever to put it on a davit I'd like one where it could easily be lowered into the water.
