48 DA Owners Club

First time to post here. I really enjoy this forum and hope to contribute as much as possible. Recently I converted all my interior lights to LEDs. There had been some questions about how to change them out so I shot a quick video for anyone who would like to see how I did it. It's quite simple. Here is a link.

What bulb did you use and where did you purchase them? Did you use the same bulbs for the reading lights?

Great first post sir! If I had the power to do it, I would give you the honorable "Great First Post" award!

Some of the LEDs that I've used are just a little too long, and I will leave one of the small springs off so they don't get bent and damaged....

Thanks HoneyBadger! I have a 2008 48 Sundancer and have a question. Have you ever had to have the aftercoolers pulled off for service? I'm really curious on what has to come apart to get the starboard aftercooler off. There's very little room on that side of the bilge so there has to be some secret. Trying to avoid taking things apart that don't need to be.

Hi Jeffrey, no I have not had to do that. Sorry I can't be of more help.

These are the ones I used from Amazon. And yes, they went into the reading lights as well. The light that is produced is the same intensity and color as the factory bulbs. You can't even tell. If you want the bright white look I would use something else. I like the warm color of these for the interior.

And these are the ones that went into the showers.

Thanks this is going to be my next project. Do you happen to remember the count for each?

I upgraded all of my lights to LED's, but it was still too dark for my in the ER so I added these but I think they came in a 6 pack when I purchased them: https://www.amazon.com/FloodLight-W...gateway&sprefix=12v+led+flood,aps,153&sr=8-76

The ones I used for the interior came in a pack of 10 and I bought 3 packs and had several left over. So a few more than 20 for the interior.
For the engine compartment it comes in a pack of 6 and you need all 6.
For the showers it comes in a pack of 4 and I believe I used 2.

Greeting everyone! My first post. I’m looking at a few 48’ DAs, and each has its own set of improvements that can be made. In other words, none has every option and I’m curious as to what folks have added.
My question(s) are:
1) has anyone added and/or replaced the Splendide washer/dryer, looks like a really tight fit through the mid cabin door. Is it worth it?
2) has anyone added cockpit air (can’t believe someone ordered without this. Yes, the Genny is only a 9kw on that DA.
3) has anyone added a factory hydraulic lift - my understanding is that the parts are still available surplus down in Florida.

Many thanks to everyone, this thread is amazing!

Welcome! A few answers for you.
1. That splendide washer dryer you would need electric, water feeds, drain and exhaust added. Ill measure when I get to the boat but I think you will fit it through the campanionway door. Biggest struggle installing one would be the exhaust. You will need to cut a 4” hole in your hull to accommodate the exhaust vent.
2. To install cockpit air you will need to remove the entire cockpit seat which is attached to the console behind the helm chairs. Add a new through hull, sea clock, strainer, pump, plumbing electric and duct. Again this is doing but will be costly and a lot of effort. Then there is the Genny issue. Ive never seen a 48 DA offered with out.
3. Hydraulic platform is by far the easiest to ad. Call Florida Bow thruster they do it all day long. They will quote you like $ 28 k but I got them down to $ 24k with a turn key install. When I bought my 48DA I couldn’t find a clean boat with platform. The condition of the boat was really way more important the the platform. After deciding what type of dinghy I was using we decided to use the Hurly products. They work very well. I would recommend the H30 with wireless battery operated winch. System can handle up top 600 pounds. My tender is 300 lbs, I don’t like to run with a lot of weigh back there.

Good luck! My boat is on the market. You should take a look and I see you are in LI

Thanks Rocket, really appreciate your reply and insight. 1) The Splendide sounds like too much of a PITA...not sure how often you use yours, but I’ve also heard they’re not the greatest (compared with land-based units). Would love a little feedback on that 2) The lack of cockpit air seems like a total non-starter, although the 48 I’ve found without it is a low hour fresh water boat. Either way, not worth going down that road.
3) I’ve used Hurley’s in the past (I installed an H2O on my most recent now sold vessel) and I’ve been perfectly satisfied, but think the platform would be a nice-to-have. Certainly not a deal breaker, but good to know it could be added.

Finally, I’m exploring options, feel free to PM me.
Thank you again!

Sooliman in my opinion the Splendide is a waste, we took ours out and use the space as a nice closet. No regret there. The cockpit AC is nice to have however I can only count on one hand the number of times we have used it and it was mostly when we were traveling during rain and had all the canvas closed up. We never use it when it's hot and sunny. Of the three options I would definitely want the hydraulic swim platform.

As a side note, if you are looking for a very nice 48DA you should really look at Rockets. It's beautiful and has been well taken care of.

Good luck with your search

How complicated was it to remove the Splendide from the boat? Did you have to remove the door frame into the aft cabin?

IF you are doing trips more than a 3 days we use the Spendide all the time. It takes about 1.5 for a wash/dry cycle. You don’t need if you are doing day trips.
Cockpit AC we use all the time. It’s a must!!! Use it at the dock at night, i never leave my cockpit exposed overnight unless its dry.
Hydraulic, depends on tender size. we choose to keep it light because we travel a lot.

Fortunately I was not the one who took it out but the door frames were not removed or damaged.

First repair needed on my 2008 48. Port side "Connection, Exhaust Outlet" (Cummins part # 3978849) which is the elbow coming out of the turbo. It developed a crack and is leaking. Does anyone know of an aftermarket supplier for these? Cummins wants $4600, DeAngelo is half that but I was wondering if the Sea Ray community new of place for replacement or used parts. It's aluminum so can it be tig welded? Thank you.

Have you checked with the guys at Seaboard Marine? I'm sure they'll be able to point you in the right direction.
