getting ready to fire up the new motor.
It’s got gas and spark and is ready to go.

Question.

Block is dry, should I fill water through the t stat housing before firing up? Or will the impeller and muffs get it done quick enough?

Thanks

What scoflaw said, also if its a older tappet cam shaft make sure you use the proper oil ie: racing oil and follow cam shaft manufactures instructions on break in or else it will possibly round off a lobe or 2 in short order. If its a newer roller style cam then fire away and go boating!:D

+1 on what scoflaw said, impeller is plenty, maybe bump starter several times but don't let it start to get oil up in the internals

Thanks all. Motor rebuilt by Adams Performance. Shawn is a friend of mine with hundreds of rebuilds through his shop.

Yes pre priming oil through the motor spinning pump with drill. Making lots of pressure!

Ok on the water question, thank you.

I know the motor was rebuilt with all the correct break in lube etc.
the oil in at the moment was put in/ recommended by builder.

Has a process to follow for initial run followed by fresh oil and filter.

Thanks again!!

How many hours breakin does he reccomend and at what rpm before oil and filter change ? Is there any retourqe to be done after or during break in period ?
Just curiosity

Initial breaking is just 20 minutes at 2000 rpm.
This as iunderstand it is for the cam lobes and ring/ cylinder surfaces.

Also getting the build lubes flushed out of system.

Have not walked through the next step requirements for use/ breaking. I have a new SEI which has some guidelines for the first few hours as far as % of full peer and shifts in/out of gear.

Will match that need up with his reco for first hours under power.

Not aware of any retourque needs but will ask!

I retightened all the worm clamps after 3 hours or so and again at 10 on our rebuild. Coolant and exhaust hoses especially, they loosened up a bit

I check them one or twice a month as well

Merc recommends retorquing the manifold and riser fasteners after the first run and 10 hours I believe

"Retorquing the manifold and riser fasteners after the first run and 10 hours"
+1

Start up went well.
20 minutes at 2000 rpm
65+ oil pressure
190 ish on water temp.

Thanks for all the input.
