On the outbound line to the thru hull. Right after it leaves the AC unit
I didn't think I could see the thru hull fitting from under the bed

I cant see the loop doing much for back pressure. The only thing it could be doing is holding water in the line for some reason

Not sure myself but it is a long way from pump to fwd system. Thanks
 
I just pulled and cleaned mine. I see no reason to replace it.

Take me through the steps:

1. Get transmission oil a "bit warm" to facilitate removal. A Texas summer may be enough.
2. Suck old oil out through dip stick port.
3. Using a 36 mm wrench/socket, (is that the proper size?) remove cleanable filter.
4. Clean filter and replace, replace crush washer.
5. Fill with approximately 1 gallon of straight 30 wt oil.

Is that about right? When you remove the filter/plug, is there still a bunch of oil in there? Oh a scale of 1-10, how much of a PITA is it to reach these suckers?

I need to do mine this year.

I do mine by myself regularly. Your description is almost perfect....I use a solo cup cut in half to catch the oil that comes out of the filter area, usually only a few tablespoons after you suck the oil out.....I recall using more than 1 gallon per side....I would buy a case of 12 qt. to do the job, I think 5 qt per side. I have never replaced the crush washer and actually have never seen a speck of anything on the filter.... I just stick it back in. I have long arms and the job to me is a snap. The filters are located in a great spot. I would give the job a "3" to finish answering all your questions. One last thing....I don't think a wrench works...You will likely need a socket/ratchet.
 
I ground off a bit of my socket to remove the beveled part on the end so I had full contact with the filter, and use a long breaker bar its on there tight!

The transmission holds a bit over 6 qts, but you'll likely not get it all out so plan on about 5.5 qts per side.
 
Hello I am looking to find how to replace the front head vent fan. On my 04 42 Sundancer I can’t seam to find where the blower is located. Would you know?

The routing of the air conditioning discharge thru hull hose from the a/c unit in the master bedroom in my boat has a loop in it before it exits. Tech team says this is intentional "for pressure" purposes. I continue to get a ton of silt built up in this line due to our marina water being so nasty so I have to blow this line a lot. Every 2-3 weeks to keep it flowing correctly in the summer. I have an oversize pump and 1" lines leading to the unit (replaced the 5/8").

My Q is do all 420's have this loop in the discharge line to thru hull from the unit? I want to make sure before I tear this loop out that there is no downside. Thanks.
I don’t have a loop. I also can’t see the thru hull fitting. I go thru another piece of plywood before going out the side.

I also can't see a loop doing much to create back pressure in the AC discharge. When you say you have to blow it out every couple of weeks, what do you do exactly? And, what do you see when you blow it out? I'm inclined to think there is something else limiting or obscuring outflow. In the beginning of the season I found a magic marker cap in that line which was blocking the AC outflow!

My suggestion, if you haven't already done it, is to disconnect the discharge line from the Cruisair "outflow" while AC compressor is on. If tons of water blows out (put a big ziplock bag on it) then move on to the outflow hose itself as the culprit. Run a rigid but flexible wire, coat hanger etc. to feel for or clear an object which may be blocking the flow. I guess the answer lays with what you see or feel when you "blow it out every couple of weeks" and what you come up with after following this recommendation. Please let us know......

Disconnect the hose while the ac unit is running is going to make a mess ! U can isolate each ac at the manifold in the bilge. I flush my lines regularly with a garden hose. Each unit individually.

I appreciate the suggestion above. I haven't blown the line from the unit discharge directly from the unit itself like you noted. What I have been doing is what Rob suggested. I take each line off the manifold in the bilge, I fashioned a 5/8" to hose connector attached to a garden hose through about 4 feet of clear tubing. It clears the lines and all of my lines are great until I get to the forward one. I hit the hose and watch all kinds of brown silt crap blow out, but it stayed "restricted" a bit. So... I ran a small 4' cable with a soft plastic edge in the out hole, got a little algae out, it got better but not great. Then I ran Barnacle Buster both ways, waiting a few hours to work from the hose off the manifold. That cleared it up but a week later, my flow in the fwd thru hull becomes crap again so I blow it from the manifold and brown silt comes out making it better. I think this loop I have is collecting crap. Just a best guess so I was wondering whose 420 had this loop thing. This is the greatest forum. Thanks to all.
 
I would be inclined to try it for a while with out the loop.
Yup...It is just such a PITA to change the whole line from the unit to the through hull. I'd rather not cut it and splice making another way to sink the boat :) but I may be at that crossroad.
