2019 Lake Michigan Rendezvous

My group for Kirby's will be three... but may only be two... will know more tomorrow night.

We are located at North Shore marina so we will take the dinghy over to wherever. Let us know.

I hate to be a debby downer but man....the wind/wave forecast for the upcoming weekend looks brutal as of right now. I'm supposed to head to Leland on Saturday and right now it's looking like a whole bunch of "not happening".

I hope the forecast changes! If any of you guys coming into Grand Haven have schedule flexibility it looks like Thursday night will be the last of the calm seas. Make a run for it!

Today
NNW wind 5 to 15 kt. Sunny. Waves 1 to 2 ft.
Tonight
N wind 6 to 10 kt. Clear. Waves 1 to 2 ft.
Wednesday
Variable winds 5 kt or less. Sunny. Waves around 1 ft.
Wednesday Night
Variable winds 5 kt or less. Mostly clear. Waves around 1 ft.
Thursday
SW wind 5 to 9 kt. Sunny. Waves 1 to 2 ft.
Thursday Night
S wind 7 to 9 kt. Mostly clear. Waves 1 to 2 ft.
Friday
SSW wind 10 to 15 kt, with gusts as high as 21 kt. Sunny. Waves 2 to 4 ft.
Friday Night
SSW wind around 14 kt. Partly cloudy. Waves around 4 ft.
Saturday
SW wind 14 to 16 kt, with gusts as high as 23 kt. Mostly sunny. Waves around 5 ft.

Ouch. That does not look good even for a following sea!!!

Checking NOAA it says Friday night is 2-4’ and Saturday is 3-5’. The winds are out of the Southwest. Most probably the lake will be on the upper end of the forecasted wave heights. I would guess at the latest an early Friday morning trip for comfort reasons. I agree with Stee about Thurs evening being ideal

Huh. Watching closely. May push on to GH Thursday depending on weather. I'll call them that day if needed.

I am planning an early morning Friday Trip. Hopefully I will arrive before it gets too bad. Need to see what Sunday for the return will be.
Thursday is out due to schedule conflicts.

I am supposed to be in Thursday! :D

You should be fine Mike. Even Friday looks good if you are traveling north. SSW with 4s is a fun ride for 30 plus foot boats. Going home to the south might present some issues. Going across the lake should be beam seas, again, not too bad.

Planning Friday morning. Winthrop Harbor > Racine > Grand Haven. Hoping it will be fun.

We are coming in Thursday and hoping they have slip for me, tryed to call today and got no call back so we will wing it Thursday night. We have a slip for Friday and Saturday.

If you don't find a slip at municipal for Thursday just swing up to Grand Isle. We have.....way too many....slips open :) It would be impossible for you to strike out at Grand Isle for a night.

If you find following seas more comfortable than beam seas you may want to consider shooting east before going north. If you need a fuel stop, fueling in South Haven is an absolute dream, just pull up along side in the river.

There are open slips at North Shore Marina also, first Marina on the left after entering channel. 616-842-1488
You would want a dinghy to get you across the river to Grand Haven.

I'm glad you guys mentioned additional slips. We could push on and skip Ludington tomorrow if that is more favorable as we go. I'll be watching weather. M
