1st post here on clubsearay.com!

I've searched for over an hour and I can't seem to find anyone who has put a subwoofer(s) into a 185 sport. The new 08 185 has a factory sub but the 07 and below didn't come with the option.

I have an idea of putting the sub where the passengers helm would be at. There is a nice area that has 6x12(rectangle) opening but I am afraid it will constantly make the cd skip because cd player will be right above the sub.

Putting the box on the ground is not an option, or in the engine compartment.

Has anyone put one in and where did you put yours?

Welcome to CSR. You will want to put your boat information, year, model, motor, etc in your signature. Allright that is out of the way.

You are correct, there is no one that I am aware of with an 06 or new model with a sub on it. Do you know where the option is for the 08's. I was originally going to put one in but I could not find anywhere that I was satisfied with that would look like a factory install. We did almost come up with an option between the two bow seats facing each other but at the last minute just was not sure.

You can see the upgrades I did do here, you can also read where I decided against the sub, good luck, let me know if you find out where the option from for the 08 is.....

Where do you have your sub...I assume the bazookas (sp?) are on the tower. Thanks

Wesley

I have 2-10's directly under my deck each drawing 150watts of clean, pure power. They hit hard and the deck doesn't skip. I'm using a stock factory upgraded Clarion marine head unit and JL Audio tens. My camera is on the fritz but I'm getting a new one soon and I'll have some pics. I think my boat has alot more room under the dash(strange it's almost 18" shorter). Good luck.

I'm very interested where the sub is being placed in the '08 185-195's... Does anyone have any insight on where this thing is going to go? I also have an '06 195 and would love to put a sub in...

Just like Wesley, I too have passed on the sub because there really isn't a good location... Somebody, anybody.... Please let us know if you have any idea!

I guess I got lucky, on my 2005 I have room under the driver and passenger console. From the looks of other boats, this changed in 2006..

Yep... Looks like SeaRay changed up the game from '05 to '06.... Wish I had that space underneath.... Guess I'll just have to be creative!

How did u mount the subs razorbob? Did u cut the fiberglass to fit them in since opening looks very small.

Edit:
The bazooka tubbies are tower speakers and the sub hasn't been installed

I built custom boxes out of marine grade plywood and carpeted them. There's a sub under each side of the dash. I should be getting my camera back tomorrow and I'll take some pics. My boat is designed under the dash like the 05 185 previous pics. They make subs now for extremely small enclosures. Look at Cruthfield.com under subwoofers and they show the specs. Unfortunately the less the space the more expensive the sub.

I think I found a solution to my dilemma. I have a seal sub box for a 12" that already has a mtx 8500 mounted in. I will cut a rectangle area off the side of the box and extend it through to the passenger side cubby (area where your fire ext. and left hand will be). Essentially the sealed box will become a ported box.

The box will be placed in the engine compartment but the vent will extend out through the passenger cubby. It should be easy and cost effective since you can buy a box anywhere. The only extra materials you need is maybe a couple feet of MDF wood to make the extension for the vent, carpet, and glue.

MS paint version is below to get a visual.

Good idea since bass is undirectional. If you have enough power to it, it won't matter where you put it. You will want to use marine grade materials or the box wont last long.

I just moved out of a 190 Celebrity. I had a 10" JL Audio sub in a box and I kept it in the engine compartment. There was NO problem with the sound quality being in the engine compartment. I had put a long speaker cable on it thinking that at times I would want to pull it out to really hear it. Only did it once and it wasn't noticably better. The way the hull acts really carries the sound and lets the waves grow.

I'm going to move the sub box into my new boat. I like the sound better than an infinite baffled speaker.

One thing to do if you want to marinize a sub box is coat it in fiberglass resin. I used a $25 bottle on my 10" and it just sucked it up like a sponge. If you don't treat the MDF box material it will just disintigrate if it gets wet.

Hope this helps

You are giving up the storage area in the engine compartment for the speaker? Interesting

What amps are you all running. I have a box for a 10in that I had In my truck. It would fit perfect under the "glove box".

Any amp and sub recommendations would be great. (under $200??) doesn't have to be anything special. Just some extra low end.

The more expensive the amp. the more real power it puts out. However, I have a friend that has a "Duel" amp in his truck bridged mono at 150watts and it hits really good. He got it on sale for $65.00.. Can't beat that. I personally run JL Audio and Soundstream. OH! The "Duel" amp has a built in crossover.

Update:

I didn't fabricate the box after all. I decided to get the kicker 06skm10 waterproof box that I could lay on the starboard passenger side. It sounds good and is easy to get in and out.

I was worried that cutting into the boat would depreciate the value.

I will be selling my new and unopened one in the classifieds.

Why cany you just put 2 marine free air subs under the rear bench seat facing the bow? Yes you would have to cut holes in the fiberglass, but I dont think it will hurt the value since most people would like the upgrade.
