The one I bought is for pulling an rv, but the rating is what I needed, and its adjustable.

looks like you’ve got a strap from bow eye straight down to the frame, how has that worked out? I’ve been taking a strap all the way over the bow. Always worried there’s too much stress on bow eye.

No problem... I'ts just tight enough to keep the nose from bouncing during the short 3 mile haul from storage to the lake and back.

GREAT THREAD!!! Just what I’ve been looking for.

I’ve got a 1999 F350 w/7.3 at about 292,xxx miles and still running great!! It’s got a 2.5” receiver rated for 20,000 lbs.

I’m bidding on several different SRs all in the 2008 to 2004 age range:
1. 280 DA – 28’ + a 4’ swim platform and weighing in at about 8,500 lbs. dry. Beam is 9’ 6”. The appropriate tri-axel trailer will weigh about 1,500 lbs.
2. 300 Sundancer – 30’ + a 3’ swim platform and weighing in at about 11,500 dry. Beam is 10”. “Sundance” says 13'6" on a trailer. The appropriate tri-axel trailer will weigh about 2,000 lbs.
3. 310 Sundancer – 31’ + a 3’ swim platform and weighing in at about 14,500 dry. Beam is 10’ 6”. “Coz” says 4’3” on trailer. “Exoset” has a 2014 model and say it’s 13’6” high by 10 ft wide. The appropriate tri-axel trailer will weigh about 2,500 lbs. “JimG” just under 15' high on the trailer.
(all of the above is approximate and good for this estimating)

Depending on the model year, the asking/selling prices are not that far apart.

Living in the southern California area, I figure that I’ll be towing between four sizable bodies of water and probably three to four times a year:
1. Lake Havasu
2. Lake Powel
3. Lake Mead
4. The Big-Water – The Pacific

But I’ve several additional questions:

1. “wyrman” was talking about hinging the arch. Sounds a bit extreme, expensive and possible… less attractive. What’s involved? Any idea of the price to do this? Have you seen any pictures to see what it will look like?
2. What do you do to the truck’s rear suspension? Air bags? Adjustable heavy-duty springs and shocks? Etc.?
3. “Exoset” suggests
_____a. Nitrogen everywhere – What have you experienced the difference being between nitrogen or plain air-filled tires?
_____b. Straps – That boat is 14,500 lbs!!! Straps? Really?
_____c. Ratchet wrench (to tighten your wheels) – I’ve never done this on the road before. Maybe I’ve just been lucky. Largest I’ve towed was a 26’ Sundance. Have you experienced the loosening of trailer lug nuts?
_____d. About $4k to $5k for a Trailer Toad. Do many of you use these?
_____e. A Weight Safe hitch at $300 to $400 seems to make sense. Another other suggestions?
_____f. On this size trailers, do you still install Budd-Barings? Or is there a better choice?

Very close to the same price a dock mate paid for a Venture trailer for a 2005 Four Winns-3278 Vista. Triple axel, electric over hyd brakes on all 3 axles, etc. Beautiful trailer as I am sure yours will be.

I experienced first hand for nitrogen in the tires. When I was in Florida, one tire was air filled and the difference was obvious with the five others. I was barely able to keep my hand on it. It was just fine on the others.

b. Straps – That boat is 14,500 lbs!!! Straps? Really?
Yes because of the bumps on the road. No matter how much the boat weight, I still want it to be locked on the trailer.

c. Ratchet wrench (to tighten your wheels) – I’ve never done this on the road before. Maybe I’ve just been lucky. Largest I’ve towed was a 26’ Sundance. Have you experienced the loosening of trailer lug nuts?
Happened to me 2 years ago on a brand new LoadRite trailer and I lost a wheel on the road. Since then, I tighten them every time I refuel.

Bought a 2018 2500 6.4 hemi (4.10 gears) a couple months ago. This pic was the first time I towed with it. Boat and trailer are about 9000-9500lbs

I used a 10,000 pound rated ratchet strap and pulled it very tight back to a strong cross member on my trailer when towing my previous 270 DA for years. Never any stress cracking or issues of any kind. The experienced salt that helped me set up the tie downs explained it this way, the back straps keep the rear down and on the bunks, but in a panic braking situation what holds the boat from moving forward on the trailer? The bow strap pulling both down and back.

That boat never moved an inch in all the years I towed her and she made many miles and trips through several states.

Just before my SeaRay I owned a Chaparral 290 Signature (31 ft x 10 ft) and I removed the arch to put the new hard top from the 310 Signature 2018. Removing the arch was no big deal, you just have to unbolt on both sides. Sometimes it is not really easy to access though. Putting the arch back is a different story since you need to be aligned almost perfectly to be able to bolt. In both cases you can't do it alone. I wouldn't do that several times in a year.

I had an airlift system with a remote and a compressor on my previous RAM 2500. It was a good system but you have to set the air suspension for every application. It was useful when you pin because you can lower the truck with the remote.
You can go with a timbren upgrade but you will lose comfort for day to day use, what's cool with air is the fact you can deflate when your are not towing and keep a smooth ride.

Because you must put a weight distribution system with trailer toads, and because you shouldn't use one with a boat trailer I don't think it is a good idea but that's just me.

Be sure to check the straps "working load limit" as that is the number to base your purchase from, not breaking strength. Also generally the weak point is the ratchet and hooks not the strap unless it is damaged.

"airlift system with a remote and a compressor" Just for other's info. I called around about their system and found that they use plastic parts rather than metal as found on the Firestone units. I've NO stock in Firestone!!

Also - this is a bit of a learning experience for me - my truck (1999 F350 Super Duty specifically purchased for this towing purpose) is only rated for 10,500 lbs. pulling. Even though I've upgraded the receiver with a 20,000 hitch, will add braking options and air bags, LEGALLY I was told that even with these upgrades - I could be ticketed by the local constables for an over-load!!!! Interesting.
 
I have Firestone airbags on my 2000 F350 Power stroke. I put them on to eliminate the "roll" it had with my cabover camper.
