So here we are, about to celebrate the 4th of July. Nike released a new shoe. It has on it an old version of our flag with 13 stars representing the original colonies. Pretty neat idea I think....but what the heck do I know....I suppose that I like it could be expected considering that I must be a racist white supremacist...I am white. It appears to me that white supremacy somehow must be a genetic thing, kinda like a bad heart or warts.

Nike pulled their new shoes after being enlightened by that guy that used to be a football player. 'After images of the shoe were posted online, Mr. Kaepernick, a Nike endorser, reached out to company officials saying that he and others felt the Betsy Ross flag is an offensive symbol because of its connection to an era of slavery'

You can't fix Nike... once they went down the politics path they can't turn back... Good thing is.. we have a choice. Like Arizona...

So now anything “connected” to an era of slavery is unacceptable. So I guess that includes the $1 dollar bill since GW was a slave owner. Will Kapernick refuse change when it includes $1?

I'm waiting for Kaepernick to remember he's often wearing cotton, ain't that a 'connection'...the hypocrite.

Joke all you want, this is getting serious....When one race can dictate the direction of our history and try and suppress a flag of our founding 13 colonies, it's beyond the tipping point. This country is being damaged from within...

Seriously, I looked at a major clothing brand shorts the other day, Ralph Lauren, and I couldn't believe how a previous traditional brand didn't have their standard shorts...The shorts had curves in them like hips on womens shorts....I showed it to my girlfriend and she just laughed....Feminizing clothing and the male persona with gender ambiguity - kowtow to some lame football player? What the hell is going on these days?

I have seen the enemy and the enemy is us. We have normalized hysteria and craziness. Everybody is looking to be offended. We are a bunch of little fiefdoms with "identities" rather than Americans. We can't even agree on fundamental principles anymore. We are doomed.

Nike did it now and pissed off Ted

Our country as it was intended, free and with liberty is over. We have been taken over by multinational corporations that want to rule the world. These companies are more powerful than the governments of the world. These companies now have the power to affect the election of whom they want in most countries.

If the people do not rein them in soon they will become the world dictators...

Don’t believe me, Google just said as much. One of their executives was just on video talking about how they will stop the next Trump.

This past weekend my three grandkids were picking out their lobsters. Two are just 13 and one just 16. They were verbally attacked by a woman. She was hollering at them because they were going to kill those animals and eat them. At one point she told my grandson she'd boil him and eat him and see how he likes it. She then told him to go back to his country(he looks Hispanic), he said he's already in his country, that he is American. She kept ranting, called him a liar. My granddaughters came to his defense, the 3 kids were able to shut her down.

While there were many other people there none of them tried to stop the woman. It seems the minority is able to mute the majority now days...people are afraid to speak up for fear of acquiring one of the latest labels.

My son (29) last weekend was in line at a gas station to cash in a lottery ticket. When the clerk yelled out he won $100 the woman behind him looking a bit scruffy and holding a 48oz soft drink asked him if he would give her $20 from his winnings. He said why and she said because I need it. He said no I don't think so and she lit up and told him he is what's wrong with society today... She went on and on...He just brushed her off and walked to the door while she proceeded to pay for the drink and buy a pack of smokes.

I've run into that attitude already 40 years ago. A guy called me and asked if he could hunt on my property. I told him no nicely, explained that I hunt myself, that my home is in that woods and I prefer to not have strangers around it firing guns.

He got upset with my answer and told me 'it just isn't fair'. I asked him what he meant and he said 'you have all that land and some people don't have any'. I told him that no one gave it to me, that I worked hard for what I have. I suggested he get a second job or start working weekends. The conversation ended with him mumbling something about a 'man needing his leisure time'. o_O

I've found that the older I get the less crap I tend to take from people. After a career in law enforcement I didn't take much, it's even less now.

If I was the head of Nike and Kopperdink told me he didn't like the shoes we made that would have brought a fast end to his career as my spokesman. I'm sure I could have found a position for him as the "Head Paperclip Counter" or something like that but he'd no longer have been my spokesman.

Nike's decision has not gained them any favor with their (former) fans.

This is exactly what I would have done too!!! And if I was Nike I wouldn't give a crap about Crapperdink's opinion.

That's my point...they picked Kaepernick because of his stand and his following. They cant pick what they like and don't like about him or what he believes. You're all in.... If this is Nike's demise they deserve it

Given the political climate today I don't know why any company would choose to po 50% of its customers. They should stay out of political statements.

Mike,

I agree with your statement.

Not sure of the accuracy of the following that I heard on the news. The statement was that since Nike signed Kaperniek, their shoe sales numbers have increased. Their choice who represents them.

All about free enterprise, Nike can decide what they want to do. As a consumer and a American who is proud of his country, I can choose not to buy from Nike.

This data point along with the above example from Blueone about his sons lottery ticket is a sad statement for where our society has moved to.

And yet Nike is within a few bucks of its all time high. The news hasn't hurt them at all. In fact, I have to wonder why they chose July 4th week to pull the shoe. Why not wait a couple days until after the Holiday when emotions aren't as high to announce it? It's all part of a plan, that they are winning. Sad indeed. I don't support them and that's about all I can do.
