I am installing a brand new transom assembly. The new part number requires replacement with the Magnum unit which I assume is the latest and greatest. This new design has a water tube which has a plastic insert. This insert is surrounded by a rubber sleeve and both stick out of the transom assembly. It comes with a new blue water outlet and gasket but my question for those of you who have installed this type;
When I place the gasket over the tube and place the outlet over the hose, it appears to have a gap of .125" or more. Is this supposed to collapse the rubber hose inside the outlet?

I will try to post pictures but those who have done this may be able to answer without them. I looked for installation instructions everywhere but nothing really talks about the outlet assembly procedure.

Thanks

It looks right in the picture. Put gasket on, tighten down the blue adapter, the rubber will move back into the housing firming up the seal. Doesn't have to be stupid tight, just snug

Thanks - Have you replaced the water tube on this new design?

I can’t seem to find any documentation on this showing the correct procedure. All of my manuals have the old design with the threaded insert depicted.

I appreciate the feedback and will do as recommended but it would be nice to see the merc docs too :).

This is indeed what I was looking for from Merccruiser. The GLM version will have to do. Thank you for posting this.

It's funny I read this ten times and I still don't know how far the rubber should be sticking out. I can see that the tube sticks out 1/4" of an inch past the rubber but no dimension for the rubber sticking out of the transom. I'm trying not to overthink this but it's hard for an engineer :).

The plastic end of the tube has a raised ring around it 1/2” or so from the end.

The rubber bushing has a groove inside it. The ring on the tube has to seat inside that groove in the bushing.

In other words, once properly seated, the bushing will automatically be in the correct position.

I have the actual Mercruiser directions in my folder.

I’ll check them for you.

Wow - thank you very much! Clearly GLM made a photo copy :). Since I purchased the assembly brand new I assumed it was correct but I just like to verify everything.
