I just ordered the ngk spark plugs! Hopefully they work well

I just put in a set last week. All seems well so far. The old spark plugs looked like they had seen better days for sure. Make sure you gap them to .06

Post a pic of the old if you can. Here’s mine:

FYI, They should be gapped from the factory. Today's plugs with high tech materials generally are not recommended to be gapped because the metals are not as maleable and subject to fracturing the precision tip.

They weren’t though. They were .03-.04 out of the box. 8.1 specifically needs the gap at .06. Other engines that use these size plugs will have different requirements. I had no issues with the gapping ..just careful.

Who knows? Manufacturers will say what they need to in order to protect themselves. That way it’s on the buyer and not them if a plug gets damaged while being gapped. Despite what the manufacturer will tell you, plugs have to be gapped per engine spec.

The last few automobile engines I replaced plugs on they all came pre-gapped and in spec. With the iridium tips they caution about breaking it as it is brittle and will change the spark. You should check the gap to make sure it is proper but definitely stay away from the old school coin gap tool and only slide in a feeler gauge gently. If an adjustment is needed then you should only touch the ground anode from the outside.

The "don't gap the plug" is based on the mfr's recommendations: https://www.ngk.com.au/technical_info/electrode-gap-adjustment/

So can u buy them gapped to the spec u are looking for?

When I did my Suburban and Minivan I ordered the plugs the AC Delcos were pre-gapped. I did verify them but they did not need adjustment. I have been debating doing plugs on the 340SDA but everything seem to be running well so I am following the saying if if ain't broke don't fix it. But I am on my third season so it's probably just a matter of time. These 8.1s are known for eating plugs.

So sounds like the GAP for the 8.1 / 496s need to be @ .06. Mine have been @ .06 each time I have changed them. Guess if they don't measure .06 outta the box, need to make them .06. Just need to do so without touching the positive element. Sounds reasonable.

Keg I been running the same set of delco’s for three seasons now also, I’m excited to give the ngk’s a try

Hey Guys, im working on my Kohler 5ECD generator again..and trying to replace the fuel injector, it says MotoTron SENSTMAP001A01 on it.

On my boat, if you pull out the draw under the electrical cabinet you will see the Sirius box. Maybe try unplugging the connectors and plugging it back in. Sometimes mine is temperamental when reactivating. You might need Sirius to resend the signal to activate.

saopm! Omg. I just read your post today after giving up on the forum a couple of weeks ago. Just last week I was fixing the couch that had come off it’s runner, the drawer just happened to be open and I happened to glimpse to through the crack. If the light hadn’t have been just right I would never had seen it. Anyway, found it! I switched the bypass and input wires wires that hook up the cd changer ... and the satellite came on. I called Sirius and they added service. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and help!
