Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Samsung - 32" Class - LED - N5300 Series - 1080p - Smart - HDTV

I could only use 2 of the 4 screws on the mounting plate on the pole due to the greater height of this tv and it seems to be secure.

Currently using an Insignia Optical/Coaxial Digital-to-Analog Converter which is connected to the tv with an optical cable. That is connected to a VicTsing Bluetooth FM transmitter with a 3.5 mm to 2- male RCA adapter cable. Only way I could think of to get the TV sound though the boats existing sound system. I do plan to upgrade the cabin sound system but this is good enough until then.

Also using Apple TV 4K along with my iPhone as a hotspot. Pleasantly surprised how well this works.

The hotspot also allows this smart tv to update its software when needed.

Thanks for the information. I will likely buy the same/similar TV.

I have the original Glomex TV antenna on my arch. Does that get any kind of usable signal?

Obviously, the boat is new to me and I am trying to learn as much as possible.

Always happy to talk about boats!

Yes, my Glomex TV antenna receives digital signals. Haven't counted how many channels I now receive over-the-air, but would estimate it at 20+, though how many you will get depends on what is available in your local area. Many more channels are added to that when the TV is connected to your hotspot.

Add the Apple TV 4K and your entertainment choices become more interesting.

Whoops, the attached picture in my previous post is one I tried and returned. Wasn’t happy with the screen.

This is a picture of the box of the one I ended up with.

Thanks. Our last boat was a Rinker 250 and it had no arch or built-in antenna. I just had a 27" TV in the cabin with an HD antenna. It got about 20 channels, too. We would hook up a Firestick for the kids to watch movies, etc. using a phone as a hotspot.

Shakedown cruise is tomorrow and, hopefully, the 290 will be in her new home port next weekend!

Have a great cruise.

Constant rain here has the river close to flood stage and full of debris. Will probably be a while before it calms down.

We’re having the same problem. The river where we keep our boat has been high/fast and the weather has been awful. The floating docks aren’t quite in as yet. Hopefully things calm down in your area. I know the storms have been constant.

Cruise up on Lake St. Clair went perfectly (knock on wood) so here’s hoping I can bring her home next weekend.

Need wiring diagram for 1995 290 DA, other years are different so need that specific year, can't find one and searay site doesn't have one. Thanks in advance

I have the same boat and am also looking for a diagram.

I have the same boat and am also looking for a diagram.I've found so many wires just cut and hanging need to know the color codes and numbers on the wires to have some idea where they go so I can sort them out plus I know theres some hidden fuses and/or fusable links hidden also as I lost the power to emergency bilge pump when testing it as it was locked up.

Hi All,
I'm trying to wire a new dash mounted chart plotter and wondering where to get 12v power from behind the dash. Any clues. I was thinking about wiring directly to the + and - going to the IEM but don't know if that's the best solution. Would like to wire it to one of the ACC buttons.
Thanks

@Solly: I will be wiring my VesselView mobile in the next week or two and will also need power. Not sure where I'm getting it yet, but when I figure it out, I'll post back.

Put my generator back in today. I think I mentioned before, but wanted to post evidence that the generator (Kohler 5ECD) does fit between the 5.0L engines and fiberglass floor.

Stand was made with 2x6 sitting on the side steps. Then ratchet strapped around arch and to back cleat preventing it from moving back or forth. Disregard the 2x4 going towards the stern on top. Plenty solid for 200 lb generator. Bolt on top right is what we connected block & tackle too.

Still very difficult to get back into position. Took about 4 hours.

Thanks for the response. Let me know where you decided to power it up from.
Nice job on the genny install!!
Looks like the exact same boat as mine with DTS
Looks like you upgraded your speakers as well??
What did you go with and are they plug and play?
Thx

Love it..
Thinking about adding a Gen to our ‘06 290. Nice to see the Koehler fits w/o pulling motor. I will assume your gen was already factory installed. Knowing what you know, how much work to install Electrical, Exhaust, cooling water etc. for a new set up??

Thank you

You realize the cost of new marine generators? $8-10k I think. Hard to justify when you can just put a $700 Honda that is more reliable. Yes, I know the CO concerns, but fine depending on your use case.

To install you would need a sea water pickup and exhaust plumbing. The biggest thing I don't know is what amount is pre-wired in the boat with no generators. Is AC power pre-wired to fuse panel? If not, you'll have to add that and drill through the bulkhead between engine room and cabin. Along with the remote control to turn on/off from control panel if you want that. Also not sure about the wiring to the back of the generator which looks like some kind of Amp connector. Don't forget the battery cables which I think are 2 AWG. For some reason they installed two grounds (causing a ground loop) that I can't seem to figure out why. Even shows it in the boat wiring diagram. You'll need another fuel shutoff solenoid and fuel filter. I don't know where the fuel line gets installed in the tank. It's definitely a big project (for the winter), but doable. It would help to have a nearby boat you can look at to reference how they did it.

and what about the Honda fuel & ignition system that isn't rated for a potential flammable environment in a bilge? There is a reason why these things need to be rated...

Installing your own bomb....

Thank you for your detailed reply. I enjoy boat projects but for limited times we would use its not worth the expense and effort. I never liked the look and risk of the portable gen bungeed to the boat but it works.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend
