We have a 87 340 Sundancer and my wife really wants to get rid of the giant rear bench seat. Has anyone done this? Ideas and pictures appreciated.

When we bought our ‘88 340 the previous owner had gotten rid of that seat and replaced it with two large coolers. Then they put pads on the top so they could be used for seating. It works well. We use one cooler for storage and the other for beer.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ve been wanting to remove the monster that restricts my access to the engine compartments. The “First Mate” has nixed every idea I’ve presented but this solution she loves! More beer storage for her, easier access for me!

My PO cut out the middle of the bench and connected to two ends to make it a 2 seater, so you have corner access on both sides. It has 2 cushions on top instead of 3 and has a canvas cover that matches the top. It was easier to move around. You don't need to move your bench unless you're taking those small panels off above the water heat exchangers.

Now I have a twin 12" sub box in the starboard corner that acts as another seat, but the idea to reduce the size of that bench is good. I don't have a great picture handy, but here's one during a fun wiring day. The wood trim panel in the middle of the bench is covering the "seam" from them removing the middle seat and connecting it back together. It looks factory good. Black box behind the open array is the sub box with a blanket on it.

Why don’t you put the fold out seat that came with the 300 series boats.?
You get the best of both worlds, the space needed when not in use with out compromising seating.

It looks easy. You’ll have to remove the two coolers and what ever panel is behind,
Draw it out you’ll see it’s not as hard as you think.
If you want I’ll take detailed pictures as how it’s build and post them for you.

Here are the pics of the rear seat.
You’ll need piano hinges made of stainless steel, Garelick swing legs and stainless steel screws.
You could uses King Starboard or Marine wood.
But I would recommend drawing it out and using cheap wood to make the initial template.
Once you are done have an Upholstrey shop do the cushions..
