40 sedan bridge forum

First weekend to wash and hit the boat with a coat of cleaner wax this season. This cordless 3" buffer from Harbor Freight is my new favorite tool...
I wouldnt use it for machine compounding, but it's awesome for a final buff when hand waxing and removing any final residue.

Looks great. I may get the ceramic installed close to the price you got the regular film.
Do you often leave the Isenglass down around your bridge?
I love that look but don’t know if I am ambitious enough to take it off during the season. The 400 is new to me to I’m very much learning what I do with her.
I don't even have eisenglass, and really don't want it. Friends have it, and only put it up in the winter to keep the dust out of their flybridge. I do have a sunbrella flybridge cover, but don't really use that either. I'm usually doing projects up there in the winter. My boat has been kept under a covered dock its entire life, so rain and sun damage are a non issue. If a thunderstorm pops up while we're out, they usually blow through pretty quickly. If we ever move the boat to the coast, we'll definitely have a set made.

Has anyone come up with a good solution on what fits under the transmission drain to catch the oil. It's a very shallow area. Thanks, Greg

I have read a few concerning articles about the Diesel generators. Do I need to shut the seacock if I am cruising and the generator is not running? Also I was told if you crank the generator for a prolonged period of time you will send water into the exhaust valves of the engine if there isn't exhaust pressure from a running engine ?
Sorry if this is beginner info. I was given conflicting info over the last few days.

TotallyGross......On my Onan Diesel generator, the water pump is sort of just like the water pumps on my Cummins Main Engines. Water doesn't get through the impeller housing unless the impeller is turning. They are actually positive displacement type pumps (as opposed to centrifugal). Long answer. Short answer: I never close my generator seacock when running while the generator is shut down.

Second part of question: I have read that it is bad to continually crank on the generator as you describe.

No need to shut the seacock if cruising and seacock is not running. Mine is open all the time.
Regarding cranking the genny for prolonged periods of time... yes, I've heard the same thing.

Today was the day. We are now officially members of the 40’ Club. Actually, we are members of the 72’ Club but traffic on the 320DA is good and she will sell soon. We settled on the 400DB today and will be bringing her home next week. Some pics are below from survey day. That’s not me in the pics, it’s the surveyor. And the name on her will be changed.

Congratulations! Looks like it's a 2001 or newer based on the Sea Ray logo on the radar arch.
