Wondering if the advent of mobile facebook has affected your use of the old school forums
Guess life has turned to instant gratification and mobile is quicker and easier.
I personally have found myself there WAY more than here and really miss the response here but with no home computer anymore (and nearly no extra time), the forums just seem clumsy on the tiny screen. Am I the only one feeling this ??

I use FB for some stuff, but enjoy forums for connecting with groups on specifics like a certain boat or car model

Facebook has its place for showing off your rig I find myself helping out more on Facebook that I am getting back from it as far as I’m concerned this forum is the Bible..

I find the info here to be more informative. Example: some guy post on Facebook talks about buying a boat without a generator. Typical response is get a Honda portable and the follow on discussions talk about getting one at harbor freight or someplace else and absolutely no regard to the safety issues. So, Facebook has it's place but I find the quality of info distributed to not be as nearly as educated as it is here.

I will leave FB for general info like where can I find something or if people think a restaurant is worth going to. For the boating tech stuff I will stay on the old school forums. For Sea Ray related info we have some of the best info and qualified people here.

I'm on here many times per week; Facebook about 1 x per week and usually lasts 10 min before I'm bored

I have seen FB work well if a '"group" is limited in scope. If it is too diverse, it will generally get out of control pretty quick. CSR is a huge Forum, lots of boat models, lots of cruising areas, lots of owners, etc. and it functions pretty good in my opinion. A wealth of information and experienced owners that seem to bend over backwards to share their knowledge. BTW, I'm a relatively newcomer, still feeling my way around, and have a couple of questions. Private Messaging (pm) seems to be used quite a bit and I haven't been able to figure out how that is done. Help! Also I sometimes see something like this ":smt043" or similar. Meaning?
Thanks,
Patrick

I hate doing anything on a phone. Not sure who thought 6 square inches of viewing area and navigating by touching places on a flat piece of glass was a good idea. But apparently millions of people do. I'm fast with a computer and slow with a phone. And old, too, I suppose!

I'm still a dinasour - no Facebook for me. I read the forum here a lot on my iPhone but usually post from an iPad. It is just easier for me.

I've never had Facebook and never will. The people that I want to know where I'm at and what I'm doing, know.

Thanks,
Patrick just click on the name of the person you want to message and when the person's info shows up click on "start a conversation". As far as the :)smt043) I haven't figured out why that happens sometimes.

Thanks Joe,
I thought that was the case but have had no response from my recent attempt. Maybe taking a break from the computer.

No comparing the two. For information specific to SeaRay's, than CSR all the way...
My wife has a FB account but asked me not to open one for myself. She said I would not be able to keep my mouth shut on all the stupid stuff people post throughout the day. As usual, she is correct. I do occasionally go on her page to see the important stuff that I'm missing out on, like.. "Up at 4. Gonna be a long day" Or, "Roasted Chicken and grilled veggies for Dinner tonight" (followed by a picture of some food) Then there's always "Think I may be getting a cold. Please say a prayer for me" And then of course the usual look at me...look at me...look at me...crap.

Facebook is good but forum is better for the DIY'er.

Especially with an older boat I can search information to find answers to my issues and it just seems more personal.
