Was wondering what kind of hours people have on their gas engines and conditions.

I have Mercruiser 5.0 BIIIs with 850 hours.

Freshwater river boat and putzing rpms most of the time.

460-350 Horizon's. Purr like kittens.

Whopping 248 hours... 2003 320 Dancer that has spent a sheltered life in a covered slip on Lake Altoona (Atlanta, GA). Soon to start it’s second sheltered life in a covered slip on the Kanawha River in Charleston, WV.

660hrs on my 4.3, runs great, no repairs past normal maintenance. Most of these engines will last a long, long time - 1000's of hours. My old Correct Craft had north of 2000hrs on the Commander / Ford 302 and still ran strong.
I know it's not an apples to apples comparison, boats run at higher RPMs for longer periods, there is constant load on the engine - no coasting etc - but take a car that has 100,000 miles on it and figure the average speed was 40mph - that's 2500hrs. Using that logic, my 4.3 has the equivalent of about 30,000 miles. I know that is a very rough comparison, but the point is I think people get too hung up on the hours on a boat engine.

Problems in the exhaust system and not using it usually is the marine engine killer.

320hrs on my 2001 7.4 Horizon's. I'm happy to see all the other 7.4's still going strong and with a lot more hours on the meter.
Looking forward to racking up several more on mine.
Going on my 3rd season with this one.

2001 400DB 7.4/ 454 Mercs in fresh water. Sitting on blocks with 1270 hours.
Running strong and never been abused. Regular maintenance.
Last 454 was traded with 1500 hours and was running great!!
Big Blocks are strong.

1991 Mercruiser 5.7 Ltr., 570 hours. Running strong.

Only maintenance, I gave her a full engine tune-up one hundred hours ago.

Same engine is in my Suburban.

584 and 587 on twin 2005 8.1’s. (Had to run starboard independently on the way home from an anchorage due to blown water pump last summer ..hence the difference in hours.) put 150 on them last season. Both running like new. (Knock on wood).

1012 on 2006 496 mags Bravo IIIs. Only issues so far are related to drives. Bravo-itis and Steering pin seals. Spend most of its life in upper Chesapeake in the water. Now lift kept.
