I understand the cutless bearing is dry and would wipe it out. If the engine is running the front seal is lubricated. What if I sprayed some soapy water in the cutless bearing to lube it up. I'd like to just put it in gear then out real quick. I just want to make sure the transmission is working before I have it hauled in the water. Ideas?

Quick in and out of gear wont hurt it in any major way. Some soap would be a good idea though.

I'm thinking the water impeller on the engine would be at greater risk unless you plan on using a hose to keep the strainer fed.

Of course. I would never run the motor without running water.

Dont forget about the dripless on the shaft. It needs a good flow of water to stay cool.

Yup. The dripless is fed from the motor. It's well lubed. Thanks
