I am looking for a flag staff to mount on the bow pulpit rail (44 sedan bridge) so I can fly a "Q" flag and then a courtesy flag when in the Bahamas. What have you all found that works and looks good?

I have a taylormade. It’s heavt duty and works well but... if I had to do it again I would try the spinner one. I’m sure someone will chime in shortly but it something like spinningflagpoles.com

I’ve tried several and I prefer the Taylor one because it is solid stainless and the pennant staff doesn’t wobble around. Taylor makes it in several sizes for different diameter rails and staffs. The one I have is Taylor part #961, which is for 7/8”-1” rails and a 1/2” pennant staff. I have 1” rails so the rubber insert for 7/8” rails doesn't fit. Instead, I wrapped a thick layer of Teflon tape around the rail before installing, both to protect the rail from scratching and to ensure the socket doesn’t slip on the rail.

I have had one of these through three boats since 2004. Great reviews.

Your rails are larger than the norm. I tried several only to find out they were not big enough. What Josh has should work. I could not get the link to open. I never found one that I really liked. I went with these rod holder flag poles and love them-https://coolwaterproducts.com/pages/boat-flag-poles.

Doesn’t address your desire for flags on your rails though. Please post what you find.

You could have one fabricated and welded to the rail. Sturdy solution that does not move around and is out of the way when lines are being secured.

Thanks for all the replies. Some good ideas here. I like the fact that the Taylormade is all stainless, so I think I'm going to take a closer look at that option. A welded-on staff would be nice, but finding someone in this area who can weld stainless in the field, and do a passable job is tough. I don't want to risk having some jackleg mess up the rail.

The original swiveler is the one I was referencing. I think that’s pretty cool. I will admit that you need a cover for the flag. It will drive you crazy when it’s windy and you’re sleeping in the v berth.

When we are in Canadian waters we fly their flag on our VHF radio antenna which also puts it higher than our US flag. Our yacht club burgee is on a SS Taylor Made on the bow pulpit rail. This pic captures all 3 flags...

You're over thinking it - this is what I do, and its been fine - technically, it should be on the port side though....i dont like using the vhf antenna as it puts quite a bit of load on it at speed

I have a 'swiveler' flag pole and like it a lot...the pole is made of stainless steel and the flag cannot wrap around the pole since the flag mounts swivel around the pole...I use a piece of PVC pipe with a cap to cover the flag when not in use.....

I also have a Swiveler I am completely satisfied with and your PVC idea is great! What diameter did you use?

+1 on the swiveler. My rails are 1 1/8 inch, so the ones from West Marine don't fit. I also don't like the ones that look like modified hose clamps.

Also +1 on the noise it can make when it's windy when you are sleeping under it in the V berth.

you will NOT be disappointed with the Original Swiveler
