I've heard of barefoot skiing. I didn't even realize barenose skiing was a thing.

Does clean out your nose pretty good!!

That pic brings back some memories. About 60 years ago my brother cut a couple hand holes in a piece of 1x12 pine. He took the handle out of the ski rope and attached the two ends to the board. He had a 12' wooden boat with a 15hp Evinrude to pull it.

The idea was to putt along slowly and with slight twists of the wrist changing the angle of the board you could easily maneuver under water and we'd explore lots of the lake bottom on every single breath. It was going to be awesome, we'd find out where all the fish were and maybe cool stuff that fell out of other boats.

The idea sure had potential and seemed to work well when he was in the water. I was threatened with a beating if I went much faster than an idle for him. But when I was in the water he couldn't resist, at some point every time it was my turn he'd 'hit it' and I'd end up hanging on for dear life, I'm sure I looked like the guy in the picture. I wasn't big enough to take him on and my threats to tell Dad didn't seem to scare him so after the time he run me into the bottom I decided to give up having all that fun.

I still have the thing he made out in the garage somewhere. It was an early/crude version of this thing...is it possible his was the first? Maybe we missed a chance to make some money, instead it got thrown in a corner and forgotten.

Looks like a potential drowning device. LOL

I see they've refined the design a bit, but this is what it was supposed to be like. I think my brother had fun but I sure didn't.
