That would be a trip I'd make for sure

Mark Knopfler - anything he has ever done, but specifically Sultans of Swing, Brothers In Arms, Romeo & Juliet, Down by the Waterline. Many other more obscure songs, but as for “mainstream”, hard to beat!

My favorites (in no particular order):
Mark Knopfler-Money for Nuthin'....
An old high school friend of mine is a founding member of Buckcherry (Keith Nelson) and I was told he won best guitar riff of 1999 or 2000 for 'Lit Up' but have never seen anything official on it. But he is pretty good.
I can tell you this, not much coming from the 2000's on.
One exception, Joe Bonamassa...
Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream
Steve Vai - I Would Love To
Saw these guys together with Eric Johnson years ago. Excellent show.
I'd like to add a few more obscure guitarists that play a classic guitars. Like Knopfler you know how they are in the first three or four notes.
Brain Setzer, best know for Stray Cat Strut with the Stray Cats.
CSN, Guinevere or Wooden Ships
Chris Isaak, Baby did a Bad Bad Thing, that bass riff is so basic but so deep
Gary Allan, Smoke Rings in the Dark, that opening riff is haunting
Now step way back (for me) Hot Rod Lincoln, I don't know the artist.
You can't do this without adding
Deep Purple, Smoke on the Water
Cheap Trick, Ain't That a Shame ( kinda drums and guitar )
ZZ Top, La Grange
I listened to Buckcherry alot at first but haven't for awhile. Me and Keith had kept in contact for awhile but the last time I heard from him was when he emailed me about Velvet Revolver. I hadn't heard of them yet and Contraband had just came out. Keith told me he wrote one of the songs on there (Dirty Little Thing). Found out later he was supposed to be part of VR but they had a falling out. Anyway, never heard from him after that. That was around 2005 or 2006. I did go to Crue Fest in 2007 and they played there but I didn't get to talk to him.Funny about Buckcherry. They're definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, in the same way that 80's hair bands are.
Joe Grushecky is another great. He has played with Bruce Springsteen to some extent before. He is a special ed teacher here locally. I met him around 2006 backstage at the Donnie Iris concert (my mother and aunt knew Donnie really well and got me backstage passes). Anyway, met Joe G there. Very nice guy and a heck of a guitar player.
Seems not many know of him outside the Pittsburgh and Cleveland area. Surprised you have being that far away....lol. He actually grew up about 2 miles from my house. My dad used to live next door to him way back. My aunt used to hang out at his house with him and his wife back in the early 80's. In one of his album covers he is wearing my grandfathers old police pants. He ended up splitting the crotch out in them on stage one night. In the late 80's he started a mortgage brokerage and my mother sold real estate then started doing appraisals. She used to talk to him a couple times a week. His office is a couple miles from where my moms office was. We see him around here often. Sheetz, WalMart, Eat & Park. We went to his concert this past summer and the summer before. He doesn't know me other than when I was backstage 10 years ago and last year it was just me and my wife at the concert so I didn't talk to him. This year my mother and step-father went and we talked to him before the show. And former Steeler Louis Lipps was there. Donnie announced him and pointed him out in the front row.Backstage at a Donnie Iris concert? We're not worthy!
