About fifty miles north of us, thousands of people are loosing their homes and a few, their lives to wild fires fuel by our seasonal gusty north winds. A quaint little town called Paradise was lost last night. I visited the boat today and thought I'd hose off the dust but realized I was hosing off the ashes of lives destroyed. I can't help think but for the grace of god go I, as we live on a rural country property that is threatened each year with ruin due to fire. We grumble about the chore of washing the ash off our boats but when we think about the origin of the ash we realize its a pretty trivial problem to have.
Carpe Diem everyone

Yep. Our children own a home near the fires and it is covered in ashes as we speak. Hoping for rain. It was 31 degrees there this morning which will help somewhat, but the area needs rain.

I read an interesting statistic on this fire: It is growing at a size of 8 football fields per minute. That was 24 hours ago. I'm sure it has increased in the pace of growth since then.

I wonder if folks in CA have learned anything about forest management this summer.

In a word, NO.

I pray for the families affected by the fires.

They seem to be a little defensive about the subject. Jerry Brown and others always have some sort of theoretical answer to challenges concerning policy. Trump threatened to withhold emergency fire funds if they don't start to manage things better. I understand his point but thought it was a stupid thing to say when folks are hurting.

Agreed 100%. Some things are better handled/said behind the scenes without the whole world hearing/seeing what is being said.

Yes, grateful that we are safe from the fires. After seeing the destruction in Paradise, I don’t complain too much about all the smoke in the Sacramento area.

We spent almost the entire summer in a cloud of smoke. Complain? Not much because I knew of the folks where the smoke was coming from. CA and CA and OR. California, Canada and Oregon.

And to think Cali has all these clean air mandates instead of controlled burns like years ago to help keep the brush to a minimum. part of the blame is the EPA

Was on the boat in the Delta this weekend. Air was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
