I know you sold this boat but I have a quick question. how well did the 390 do with the 8.1's. I'm not one of those guys that need D's but I'm curious what was the RPM's at a cruising speed of about 20.5 knots and the hourly fuel burn. My wife and I are kicking around moving to a 38 sundancer or the 40 Sundancer. I would actually prefer the 8.1's just because I am familiar with Gas and with only putting on 450 hours on our 320 (2007) I just can't see spending the extra money for the D's. We have taken a couple of trips down to Maryland from Jersey (Manasquan inlet) so it isn't like we stay dockside. just that most of our time we go out only a few miles away from dock and anchor for the day. With that said I still am interested in the fuel burn and how well she does with 8.1's because with a bigger boat we are looking to take longer trips , thanks for your help.

The 8.1s are good motors. In the 390 I sold, I had the 8.1 HO version; lots of power, but they are thirsty engines. My cruise mph was 25@3,600; burn rate 40 gph. The one complaint with the 390 was SR fuel tank config. The port tank was 145 gal., stbd 135. When I asked SR, they say it was to compensate for the gen which was on the stbd side. Odd that a 10 ton boat would be influenced with gen position. As a result, my range was always limited to the stbd tank. Hope this helps. Good luck.

So I take it the Gen would pull from the Port tank (?) or would at least hope so.
Thanks for the info. Very helpful. Your 390 / 40 sea ray is a lot larger than my 320 11.5 beam vs your 13.2 beam with the obvious 8 feet in length. That's a lot more boat and felt like a monster when I checked one out at the slip (wasn't able to take it out on the water). Presently with my 350 Horizon i get 13.5 to 15 per gallon / per engine at around 3800 RPM total of 27 -30 per hour @ 20.5 knots So it doesn't look that bad when I look at it like that. Not to be to anal about it, but I have a no wake 20 min ride to get out and back in so at most for every 1 hour driven 40 min is at no wake speed 4.5 - 5 knots 800-900 RPM. So at most of my 430 hours only a 3rd is max burn other than that 2/3rds was an enjoyable but slow leisurely ride. I'm sure the HO's don't drink that much at that speed / RPM. Again thanks for the info, much appreciated!!!

Actually, gen draws from stbd side......go figure. Don't let the size intimidate you. You get used to it quickly. Good luck.
