6.2l w/Bravo III
Hello
I have a 2003 240 Sundeck with a 6.2L Mercruiser w/BravoIII. The fitting on the transom plate for the water hose has corroded. I have be told that the engine and leg will have to be removed to replace the transom. Does anyone know of any other way the this can be repaired without the R&R.

Cheers
Greg

Pulling an engine is no big deal and only a few hours of labor. Heck, gives you room to clean the bilge!

Bravoitis. 2 ways to repair. 1 - pull the outdrive and install new raw water hose (pipe), it has been upgraded from the original or abandon the raw water supply from the drive by installing a blocking plate at the transom and installing a thru hull with a strainer basket as an inboard motor would have. Either way works, both are a little pricey.
I just did my 340 with 496mags last year. Added the thru hulls, motors now both run at 170 and the material that the strainers stop from getting to my motor is impressive. There is no strainer, filter when pulling thru the drive.
If it is the steering pin that is corroded / leaking, another Br III issue, then the options are replace the transom as mentioned above or use a repair / replace kit offered by JR Marine that does not require pulling engine or the expensive new transom assembly. It depends on the condition of the transom if the kit will do the job. If it is badly corroded, the kit may not seal properly. Link: http://www.jrmarine.com/instructions.htm
