Just did a full rebuild on my gas Westerbeke sea water pump. Everything but the pump body. Replaced the impeller 3 or 4 months ago and not seals. Seals started leaking, so decided to rebuild all of it since it had 1300+ hours on it. Hate to say it, but the genny generally gets way more run time than the big motors. Piece of mind as well since we often leave the boat unattended with the genny running if at a dockside restaurant. My 3 month old impeller had already slung off a blade.

We're exactly the opposite. Gen only has 130 hours on it. We usually only run ours to cook on the water and recharge everything onboard. I agree with the usefulness of the SeaFlush system. I've used it for years and it's great. In some places though I would rather have a nice strainer cap fabricated to I don't need as much help from my wife.

Also, I've tried searching the forum but I must be inept. I'm debating on doing the engine impellers myself but would like to read/see how others have done it. Stbd seems like it's really going to be a pain.

Under the heading of "super fastidious owner" I also have the latest oil sample records from Blackstone Labs from the last oil change (both engines passed with flying colors), if anyone's interested?.

I'd be interested to hear what this forum might think she's worth? Please DM me any thoughts on that?... also DM me with any additional questions and if you want any pictures?

PS You can see your face in the hull gel coat, see attached taken in Jul when she was pulled for bottom paint and zincs. A very clean boat.

Way too much engine noise comes out the exhaust port on the side of the boat. My raft up buddies don't like socializing with us on our cockpit when the genny is running. We end up having to turn it off when we are on the cockpit. Should only hear the rush of water exiting the boat. Consulted with Centek and they said this dual stage is the answer. They said the dinky 6x9 single stage that Sea Ray chose is doing basically nothing.

I agree... in many respects, the PERFECT size... can get in anywhere, enough accommodation for a family etc etc etc... that said, we are a family of 2 adults and 4 (growing) children... it gets small fast... we had our hearts set on the Sedan Bridge 58, but, with all the noise about springer issues and Sea Ray getting out of that market, I think we are (rapidly) pivoting back to a little-known, but beautifully made, UK boat... the Fairline Squadron 58 has our attention right now... I had Fairlines in the UK and they are hard to beat in terms of build quality and sea keeping... will keep you posted and will be sad to see the SB400 go

Bill, after the muffler, the next noisiest is engine chatter through the cockpit floor. The noise overboard is so much better!

$412. About twice what getting a bigger single stage would cost. I've talked to some who did that (10"x10") and weren't fully satisfied. So I figured I'd be the guinea pig for the dual stage.

Ha, not yet. It is on my list, but not high on priority just yet.
My knee jerk reaction is to add a sound enclosure around the genny, but being a guy that will turn a wrench or two, I like having full visibility of the mechanicals.

I do like the idea of dual stage, and the footprint is very close to OEM. Is this a direct replacement, or do you need to make room? I retrofit a 12" (single stage) and had to move the pumps around.

Fits just fine in the same place. Diameter is only 9". I may need to shorten the top hose, but may not. Will find out tomorrow.
 
Hi Guys,
Can someone speak to the performance difference between the 3116 & 3126 Cats? Is it that significant that you would choose one boat over another even if you liked the one with the smaller motors better? Also, is the $ value of the 3126’s that much more than the 3116’s? Thanks for any insight that you can provide!
 
I am sure Frank W will chime in. I believe they are almost identical and use the same basic block. The 3116 is a fully mechanical engine.
 
Hoses are on. I did not have to change the length of either hose. They fit just fine as is. Sound check soon.
