220 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Any of you still running your 220SD? We haven't had ours out as much as we'd like, but still loving it.

This summer, we added a Simrad GO7 XSE gps and also a dual battery setup with a Blue Sea Systems Add-A-Battery kit.

Unfortunately, we lost the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve over the 4th of July weekend. But we had friends at the lake with us that towed us to the marina, Webster Marine on Smith Mountain Lake (no personal connection), and they fixed it fast. They were very accommodating, especially since it was a busy holiday weekend. I didn't know at the time what was causing it to alarm and shut down, so I was afraid to run it. In hindsight, I suppose it might have run fine had I kept it above idle. Better safe than sorry, though.

Hi All! Has anyone replaced the decals on the side of their sundeck? I have a 2003 and the stickers have seen better days. I have been able to find the small sundeck and sun on ebay, but am thinking about the long stickers that go along the side of the boat.

My 2005 stickers have some scratches through them, so I've been watching eBay for some replacements - no luck so far. It's not bothered us enough to look into ordering them, which I assume would be rather expensive.

Good morning all
Still fairly new to Sea Rays and the forum. Has anyone replaced the carpets on a 2003-2005 220 Sundeck? Any recommendations or reviews? I’m seeing prices from $700 to $1100 for both pieces. I prefer the naked look but my wife and son love the carpet so I’m stuck. Any help would as always be greatly appreciated.

I purchased a 2013 Sundeck last summer. The HID date code shows it manufactured in 2013, however the layout of the boat and owners manual I downloaded from Sea Ray matches the 2014 model year. Does anyone have the back story on the changes made that year?

Just thought I would say hi. I moved to Lake Hopatcong last year and bought a 208lr stingray. It was just a bit small. Next week I'm picking up my first Sea Ray, it's an 08 220 Sundeck. I'm super excited about it and wanted to introduce myself with my first post.

Welcome to the thread.

I read through the entire post, thank you everyone for the great information. I have a question.

I had a 208lr stingray as my first boat. I live on Lake Hopatcong in NJ and the center of the lake on weekends can get pretty choppy. My old boat had a horrible porpoising problem. People would get injured if they were sitting up in the front which made the problem even worse because no one would sit up in the front section of the boat. I bought smart tabs for it and then found my 220 so I never actually installed them. I I saw some mention of smart tabs on one of the previous posts but not much detail. Anyone who has them. What are your thoughts? And does anyone have a picture of where they mounted them? It'll be my first time putting them on and I'd rather just do it myself but just want to make sure I put it in the right spot. Thank you!

I would repost that question as where to mount smart tabs. There aren’t that many 220 sun decks, but lots of folks with tabs.

Also, welcome to the club! We love our 220 SD!

Did you ever get a response to this Knox? I just bought the same boat and have the same question.

The spec pages on SR's site for the '13 and '14 model are exactly the same.

2013 was the first year for the new "version" of the 220SD.

Sometimes there are mid-model year changes and the info (brochures, etc) don't always match up because they are printed in advance.

Sometimes there are mistakes made in advertising.

Don't overthink this. Get the spec sheet and owner's manual that matches your boat and call it a day.

The spec sheet is correct however the owner's manual is missing from Sea Ray's website. If you look at the 2012, owner's manual, the capacity is listed as 8 people. For the 2014, it is listed as 12 people. At least on my 2013 Sundeck 220, it matches the 2014 capacity and not the 2012.

Additionally, the 2013 parts manual matches the 2012 owner's manual and not the 2014 owner's manual.

So there may have been some early 2013s that match 2012s, but at least mine, which according to the HIN was built in March, it matches the 2014 model.

As I mentioned above, 2013 was the first official year for the new model 220SD. And, ultimately, get the manual that matches your boat - that's the only thing that really matters. Truthfully, worrying about the rest is a moot point.
