So I don't believe my 2004 220 select 5.0mpi has the cool fuel gen 3 model but I wanted to see if someone knew for sure. I hope to avoid the delamination issue experienced by this model.

My engine serial number is 0M678324, boat is a 2004. If I look on the mercury marine parts catalog it appears that my boat does not have the gen 3 but I wanted someone with a little more knowledge to confirm my findings.

Thanks in advance!!!

You are OK. Your engine SN has the older style fuel cooler. item 8 in the pic below.

I have the same old style in my 290 with twin 5.0 efi. Just a fyi #14 is a small hat type filter. If u start having fuel issues remember to check that.

Do you consider that #14 filter a part of regular maintenance? Its a new to me 2004, Im guessing I should change it just because I have no idea if or when it was changed before. Id rather dig into it now than find its a problem in the spring once its at the dock. What do you think?

No. Not regualar maintenance. Just a fyi if u start having a fuel problem. Theire are not many fuel filters on those motors. Mine only has the fuel/water seperator. Was kinda shocked when i started to look into changing fuel filters.

I wonder if its a bear to change? It might be on the list of "things to do" I prefer to get at things like this before they become gremlins

You hit it on the nail. Its a sob to get to. Very tight area. I had to change a fuel pump on the port side and to get to it i had to remove the power steering pump, batteries and alternator.

That whole show comes out as an assembly. 2 nuts and the bracket that the CF2 attaches to drops down. Remove the 2 fuel lines that attach to the spin on filter housing. Undo the fuel line that attaches to the fuel rail.

I wouldn't touch it unless you have an issue.

Scoflaw. You are probably correct. If your 100 lbs and 5-2. And i do agree. I would not touch it unless there is a problem. Just keep in mind that there is a fuel filter there.
