My 1988 340 Express Cruiser seems to be cooking my batteries. The shore power converter light (green) on my cabin panel never goes out. Most recently replaced battery looked like it was only 3/4 full of electrolyte. Do I need a new charger or a smart charger?

Your current charger can be over charging by output level or because its continuously charging. A new modern multi stage smart charger should fix both of these scenarios.

Thanks, Wylie. I agree a smart charger is the way to go.

Promariner Pronautic chargers are a popular replacement amongst the ranks. Have one myself after replacing the original.

Thanks, I will look into these Pronautics.

I replaced with a Pronautics. Good Charger. However, if you have flooded cells, you need to keep them topped up with distilled water occasionally.

Yes, good advice. Wonder why my batteries are not sealed though? Maybe my mechanic used cheap ones.
