Brunswick selling off Sea Ray brand

Are you also considering Maritimo?

I wasn’t, but thanks for the suggestion, they look great on their web site. The lines and layouts look good. It also looks like they’re available with conventional shafts. Would you put them in the same quality bucket as Tiara, Princess, and Riviera?

Here are two better pix.

Nice to see your boat at the dock in the summer....you need to put that winter pic away until fall

Are you looking at buying new? They are highly regarded here in Australia. The new ones look nice and they've stuck with shaft drives whereas Riviera have really focused on Pod drives up to 60ft.

yes.

We’re still in the early research stage, but we would probably go a few years old and up in feet, rather than new, given the value proposition. Yes, friends close to our slip have a 50+ Riviera with pods, and their pod experience has been less than stellar.

Seeing as your previous is a 48DB, and current is a Riviera that is also on our list, how do you like the Riviera and besides the Enclosed bridge, what made you change?

On our current list is (all used)
2003-2011 Sea Ray 48(50, 52) DB
2008+ Maritimo
2008+ Riviera
Tiara F50/F53

I think a distinction needs to be made when discussing pod drives. If you're talking Zeus/Merc yeah lots of misery out there. Not so much in the Volvo Penta IPS world.

My marina neighbor with the Riviera has Volvo IPSs. Admittedly, that’s only a sample of one.

We went into our last boat purchase with a very open mind. We traveled a lot visiting boats. We physically climbed on probably 8-10 manufacturers boats. This coupled with exposure at Fort Lauderdale boat show.

Got to say - we really "liked" Marquis. After being on it now for coming up on a year - like it even more.

Not seeing it on anyone's list - but since we are talking non Sea Ray brands, take a look at one.

That's the phase we are in as well. Heck were not even sold on the Sedan Bridge/Fly Bridge. We have a pretty short list of desired upgrades

1) easier dinghy deployment (not that ours is hard but I would rather have a larger dinghy)
2) storage for bikes, SUP's etc
3) third stateroom or at least a more comfortable area for a short term guest to sleep

What I am finding is the express layouts (i.e. Sundancer or Sport Coupes) we need to be well into the 50' range to satisfy point #3, my issue is our slip is designed for a 40 footer, and I know we are allowed up to 50', not sure how they will fell about squeezing in a 52 ish footer. There are very few spots for 50+, and only three that I would even consider moving into. The rest are far too exposed to the weather for my liking.

Did Marquis offer boats in the 48-52' range?

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder - but that is one ugly boat
Indeed. Not sure who built it. Has sort of a custom look to it. Has been hanging around our port for a week or so. But it could be a new boat that is here to stay.

I totally agree on the dinghy issue - deployment is not a problem for us but running in rough water with our dinghy is a HUGE issue. If we ever get beam seas on the port side, the dinghy straps come loose. I haven't found an acceptable way to get around this flaw with the chock system that's on our submersible swim platform.

Besides the dinghy issue, here are my requirements for our next boat:

1) No more canvas
2) Larger galley surface area for prep/cooking
3) Walk-around master bed/full-beam master

We've actually learned enough about our pod drives to feel comfortable with the maintenance and hope we've gotten past most of the issues so we would consider another Mercury Zeus pod drive boat though would prefer one that's newer than our 2010 model.

What's frustrating is the lack of boats in the price range above $450k and below $1,000,000. We're ready to move up but not ready to double or triple our boat budget.

It's a 2018 Navetta 58, made in Italy...owner took delivery in April in Ft Lauderdale, took it up the eastern seaboard, through the Great Lakes...

I had a 48DA beforehand so moved from a Sundancer to a flybridge. The main reason was having kids and a lounge room with a view became a priority. We have a baby gate where the main door is and our toddler can run and dance around the lounge room burning off energy without us having to worry. The third bedroom was a big plus as well as is the main level galley.

Definitely a fan of the enclosed flybridge. Comfortable in all weather and air conditioned. Mine has a ladder for access which takes up less space than stairs. Personally I'd prefer stairs.

I also looked at a 52DB prior to the Riv and whilst it did some things better, I felt the engine bay was too tight. Having V-Drives on the 48DA, I was really looking for a spacious engine bay that was easy to get around this time.

I got the feeling that the 2008 era Riviera's were a step above that era of Maritimo. You probably need to have a look at some and get a feel for them. If I was looking again, and had a little bit more to spend I would find a Rivera 51 Enclosed with the internal staircase and MTUs.

Thanks. Is the owner here to stay or just passing through? Just looked it up......relatively cheap at at $1,300,000 and rated for offshore service. Never heard of the company (no surprise).
