Installing LED TV on 2004 340 Sundancer Bulkhead Wall

Man....when do you guys find time to watch so much TV!!!???

Things I like to stare at when boating: 1.) a full cooler, 1a.) my wife, 2.) bigger/better boats than mine, 3.) the water, 4.) the sky, 5.) a half empty cooler, D.) dock neighbors, 8.) my kids not getting screen time, G.) a fire pit, 12.) my phone trying to find the next song to play.

Joking aside these are some beautiful installs. It makes me want to install them just because they look slick...whether or not I'd actually use them.

Ha ...I have a two year old obsessed with Paw Patrol, who without that, gets cabin fever very quickly and goes insane.

mounted in the drink holder location... does not stay here while underway.

I actually wanted to recover the space in the galley cabinet that housed the mostly useless TV. If that TV was turned towards the forward bed as my son sleeping on the salon sofa could not see it. We wound up using a small portable on the galley most of last year because of that.

Thanks for the post. Nice install. I am contemplating doing this upgrade on my 320. I did replace the factory tv with a wide screen and switched everything over to 12v.

Chase, Marshall, Rubble and Everest are regular passengers on my boat as well...though of the stuffed animal variety. I immediately recognized that photo :) I may or may not own most of those DVD's....

Agree with all that and much more. However, I enjoy a little tv just before bed, or I like the tv on when the wife and I get a little.....when the boats ah- rockin don't come asking if you can take another beer out of da fridge..... know what I mean... lol

Yeah I didn’t get that complex yet. I just drilled into the arch and ran the power cable to my inverter which lives behind the fridge.

During the install ..tv is on a swing mount.

If you want the amplified signal you are going to need to tie into the cable after the glomex amp wherever that is installed. In my case it is forward in a cabinet on the port side near where the little TV cubby is. Since that TV has been removed I am looking to relocate the Glomex amp to the mid cabin storage closet as I do not want to make the runs from the front to the mid cabin and eventually the cockpit.

If you don't think you need the amp you could probably just splice into the cable where ever it comes in from the top - in my case up on the arch. In @M Prod's case the antenna was directly above the TV on the arch - not sure how he chose to cable it though.

As far as the splicing goes - it is just regular COAX like you would have in your home.

If you have decent internet you could always try something like a FireTV stick to get broadcasts.

Thank you for the knowledge Kevin!

Kevin,
Thanks for your post. It helped me a lot. I installed a 43" Samsung and a KVH satellite. I know the pic isn't great. I will get better ones this weekend if anyone wants to see more.

... I installed a 43" Samsung and a KVH satellite...

No Problem - I m glad it was of help.
How was the clearance with the 43" by the panel door?
I was concerned that it might interfere on a larger TV.

I ordered the slimmest mount I could find. I still have about 1 1/2 inch clearance. I measured it all before I bought the tv but I was still nervous. I am extremely happy with it.

Kevin,
Which Glomex antenna do you have and about how many stations do you get?
The P.O. of my boat must have tossed the Glomex antenna when he had the KVH installed. The coax for it is still coiled up in the arch and the Glomex Amp A/B switch is still inside a cabinet. The power and ground are disconnected from the Amp (looks like they used them for the 12 volt KVH Reciever) but the coax coming from the arch is still there and so is the one going to the splitter and the one coming from the dockside cable inlet back on the transom.
For a keep busy project I could just buy and re-install an antenna on the arch, connect the coax to it, run 12 volt to the Amp again, and it would be back in business.
I’ve got 3 TV’s running off one KVH box so they can only get the same station at any one time.
Having the option to switch to OTA reception when the kids sleep over might be nice.
Just want to make sure I would get enough stations to make it worth buying a replacement antenna.

Not really what sure - it's the stock antenna

Antenna is line of sight so the number of channels it determined by location. A scan finds lots of channels but most are foreign language. You will most likely will get the locals and the side bands (ie 7-1, 7-2).

I am now running Playstation Vue (its a service not tied to the game console) now on my FireTV Stick that gives me the locals and cable channels. Its internet based so it will depend on your Wifi or Hotspot quality. Last week at Watch Hill internet over LTE cellular was horrible so I switched to downloaded movies.

I still plan on running two FireTV sticks and distributing to all TVs over 1080p on COAX. That way any TV could choose OTA, FireTV1 or FireTV2 (in your case it could be the KVH receiver) just by changing channels. Only connection will be the COAX to the TV.

Hey Kevin, what device do you use to download/store movies for later viewing?

I use the FireTV stick with VLC (app) and USB thumb drives. I don't think it supports anything but FAT32 eliminating large drives.

My main TV is a smart Samsung but it was more convenient to us the FireTV to switch back and forth.

Thanks! Doesn’t sound like it’s worth buying the antenna.
All 3 of mine are now Vizio 1080p smart TV’s. Among the Apps on them are Amazon and Netflix which we use with my iPad as a hotspot, and I can also stream Fios to my iPad from my home account.
I connect my iPad to the TV’s via an Apple AV adapter so I can watch live channels from Fios as well as anything I recorded on my home DVR.
All of that is great until I’m in a spot with sketchy cell service inside the cabin, which happens fairly often.
That’s when I have to depend on the KVH with the basic DirectTV lineup exclusively through the single box.
It would be nice to be able to switch to OTA during those times so the kids could watch something different, but their probably better off depending on whatever movies they download to their phones.

Kevin,
Thinking about doing the same thing to mine. Looks great. What did you use to mount the bracket?
Thanks

I had to bring this back and ask a question. Kevin, the tv looks great. My question it to AARONGRZ.. Can you tell me how far out from the wall the TV comes? The bracket you used is 1" thick and the TV has to be at least 2" thick. How does your breaker door open? I can't see any possible way this will work for me, and I measured 5 times. Any more info would be great. Thanks
