hello everyone trying to find out why my new boat is a dog.
I have a 2007 5.7L 250 hp with the boat empty no gear/water on board at all half a tank of fuel I was able to reach 4300 rpm and get up to 23 knots now with fuel tank f fuel and about 25 gallons of water I can barley make 3800rpm and 15 knots. When the boat was empty the best cruise speed was around 3800 rpm and 20 knots I had trim tabs down. Now should go down a pitch to get in the rpm range of 4200 to 4600 with the added gear and fuel?

Take a look at your prop could have got changed out for the wrong pitch for starters. If that checks out you need to take a look at your fuel system it could be as simple as a plugged fuel filter. Clean the spark arrestor. A standard tune up cap rotor, wires and plugs take a good look at the plugs they should all look the same. Because this is a new to you boat it's hard to say what your problem is without eliminating the normal maintenance that needs done .

Do you know what the correct prop pitch is ? I will look at the possible fuel issue as well thank for your response

I know your boat is a little bigger and heavier than mine was but i had a 14.5x17 then switched to a 15.8x15. the 2nd one was much better

The fix for a Heavy underpowered boat is a 4 blade stainless prop. I went through it with my 90' 270DA. A world of difference! If you can swing the $ of a bravo 1 4 blade do it! Solas makes a nice prop too! Just remember a general rule of thumb is come down 1" of pitch when going from a 3 blade to a 4 blade.
I have a stainless Solas rubex 14.75 x 15 in the box if your interested. Was on my 270 for 1 day, got wet and couldn't return it. $225 shipped

What outdrive is it for?

He all

So I took the boat out today and the boats new name is 8 knots. I could not get it to go over 3000 rpm with out it making some kind of rattles or pinging also I tried to rev thru it but after the boat was almost dieing or loss power. When I drop the throttle back down all runs well. Could it be pinging and could that be from clogged fuel filter. Iam going to change it tomorrow.

.
It sounds like this
